Mechanical Roots is an Post-Alternative Rock band comprised of three uniquely talented individuals from across the US: Kev O’Brien, Zach Gaston and Steven Carroll. Kev is a singer/guitarist from Connecticut who has performed in New York City with several groups and toured across America. In 2016, he became an endorsed artist with Wathen Audiophile. Zach is a bassist from Alabama that attended USC, and has performed with several bands and artists around LA both with and without the Trojan Marching Band. Steven Carroll has played drums since the age of nine, graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Berklee College of Music, and has been performing around LA in many types of ensembles since then. In 2018, he founded BADD Audio. Combined, they create the sound of Mechanical Roots, a band based in Los Angeles that is devoted to musical craftsmanship and bringing a unique cathartic performance to every audience. Their music is influenced by Post-Rock and Alternative Rock sounds with catchy, singable hooks in both the vocals and instrumentals. Mechanical Roots finds success in writing hard-rocking music while maintaining a sound that is listenable and enjoyable for any demographic.
We had to chance to talk with Mechanical Roots about their latest single "Into The Storm"
Check it out below!
Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Hey! we are an Alternative Post - Rock Trio based out of Los Angeles. Kev O’Brien on guitar and vocals, Zach Gaston on bass and Steven Carroll on drums. We all come from different parts of the country and through word of mouth and the grape vine we created Mechanical Roots.
Tell us a bit about your new song and the writing style behind it?
Our song “Into the Storm” was our first single that we released in February of 2017. The writing process was simple. I (Kev) knew i wanted something catchy and hard rocking. I wanted it to relate to a lot of people in this city lyrically and also wanted you to be jammin out to the hard hitting riffs and groove that we lay down for the listener.
Where did the inspiration behind the song come from?
The idea of the song came from the experience of moving from a small town to an insane, massive multi-cultured city where the grind never stops. Its about going after what you love with the one you love. Its the feeling of support and passion that keeps you thirsty for success. Having someone there to hold you up while things are trying to push you down helps keep the drive and spirit alive.
What are the top 3 things you would love your fans to know about you on the more personal side of things?
I think everyone in the world would agree that animals are the best! We are animal lovers and each of us have a pet or two. We all have a side hustle that we do to help us stay afloat. All three of us do session work for different artists. Zach is also a composer and Arranger. Steven has his own audio engineering company called BADD Audio. Kev is a car salesman. Last but not least, we love a good food truck. Street food out here in LA is a huge part of our diet. You can definitely catch us at one after a night out!
Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who hasn’t seen you live yet, how would you explain your live performance?
We have a show at El Cid in SilverLake coming up on September 27th! We are taking some time off of shows to get back into the studio to record some new music for y’all. New single in the works! If you haven’t seen us live, get ready for a wave of energy to smack you right in the feels! We give it all we can when it comes to playing live because we believe that is how rock music should be played. Full of energy, passion, and a lot of sweat! We love hanging out after shows and meeting new people so please, don’t be afraid to come and say hello! Connect with Mechanical Roots on social media:
