A Classic Track Called “No One Like You” By Bria Cheri Featuring Donnie Klang

Singer-songwriter, pianist, dancer and actress from Jamaica Queens, New York Bria Cheri found her love of music at the age of three when she first began learning how to play the piano. Ever since, Bria has spent time perfecting her craft, pursuing music on a professional level and has now made a name for herself in her hometown and has caught the attention of an artist formerly sign to Sean “Diddy” Combs’ Bad Boy Records, Donnie Klang. Donnie became her mentor and producer after seeing Bria Cheri’s impressive talent and went on to produce her debut EP titled “Before The Music” that was released in 2017 and written entirely by Bria. She has recently graduated from Long Island University in New York majoring in Broadcast journalism, is a new member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., and is focused and ready to release her second EP titled “Silent Siren Vol. 1” May 29, 2019.

“No One Like You” starts off with an old school vibe that made me feel like I was back in the early 2000s in my elastic bottom pants and jean jacket as the beginning has really brought back that classic R&B sound. Bria Cheri’s voice is gorgeous and she has such talent grazing through each note with passion and purpose to deliver the lyrics in a meaningful way. The style of “No One Like You” reminds me of some of Destiny’s Child songs but with a more modern twist to it. Donnie Klang has a rapping section closer to the end of the track and he flows the lyrics together absolutely perfectly adding a bit of flare to this moving track. The Lyrics are written with emotion, easily relatable and I love the way the Bria kind of freestyles at the end of “No One Like You” over her own vocals singing the chorus and that there are subtle harmonies scattered throughout the song. This song is has us dancing and we highly suggest that if you love classic R&B this song is the perfect match for your playlist.

Hey Bria Cheri! Can you tell us a little more about yourself?

Hello and Thank you for opportunity to share my story! I am an independent R&B singer-songwriter from Jamaica Queens, NY. Music has been a part of my life since I could walk and talk. It is my sanctuary. I come from a musical family background. My Grandfather was a manager to many Jazz artists including Billy Eckstein, and my Great Aunt was an incredible singer who performed on Broadway. So, I grew up listening to all kinds of music, taking in the artistry and appreciating it. From a young age I could never imagine myself doing anything other than music. A few years ago, I caught the attention of Donnie Klang, who is an amazing artist and producer. If you remember Sean “Diddy” Combs show, “Making the Band 4” then you know exactly who Donnie is. Donnie took me under his wing and helped cultivate my dream and produced my debut EP “Before the Music.” Working with him has been an incredible experience. Outside of being an artist, I recently graduated from Long Island University in NY where I received a bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism. While attending LIU Post I created my own radio show at my school’s radio station, 88.1FM/MYWCWP.org and later became the Music Director. The show was called “Flava.” It was a live 2-hour music talk show centered around Hip-Hop and R&B music. I would interview local artists and discuss varying topics in the entertainment industry. Through having my own show, I was able to learn about the radio business, build my personality and apply it to my music career. My other interests include exercising or more specifically weight lifting and pursuing my other passion of acting.

What is the meaning behind “No One Like You”?

“No One Like You” is one of the songs off my debut EP and it is the only song (that I know of), that features Donnie Klang rapping. The song spawned from Method Man and Mary J. Blige’s rendition of “You’re All I Need.” I loved how that song made me feel. The raw emotion and what it stood for, love. Donnie and I recreated that feeling with this song. “No One Like You” is about being there for the one you love wholeheartedly. Supporting them in whatever their passion is. The day we were in the studio recording this song, I watched Donnie write his rhymes within minutes. I had no idea what he was going to say, but when he went in the booth and spit the rhymes, he brought the song home.

What gives you drive to continue writing new music?

What drives me to write music honestly is my love for it. I thoroughly enjoy telling stories and sharing my thoughts and experiences through music. It’s a very cathartic. There is nothing like creating a song and having someone tell you they connected with it and love you for making it. Music is one of the few things that connects us. No matter how hard people try to find ways to divide one another, when you see people of all backgrounds enjoying the same song you see how powerful music can be.

Can you tell us how you found your sound and what do you feel sets it apart from other artists?

It wasn’t that I found my sound. I would say the sound found me. I grew up listening to Jazz artists like Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald, R&B artists like Aaliyah, Toni Braxton, Chaka Khan, Mary J. Blige and old school and current day Hip-Hop. When you blend all of these influences you get me. My sound is edgy, soulful but chic with a side of mystery because I never give too much away. I’ll always leave you wondering what I’m going to do next. What sets me apart from other artists is my versatility and the fact that I am a chameleon. I adapt to any challenge or atmosphere I’m in. I love experimenting with sounds and as my career grows I plan on pushing the limits with my visuals as well. Most importantly, I am also business minded. My main goal in this industry is to have longevity and create a foundation for other young up and coming artists to prosper in.

Tell us about your upcoming album release and are there any performances to look for in 2019?

Yes, I am very excited to release my second EP entitled, “Silent Siren Vol.1.” This will be part one of my most personal work yet. I have grown immensely as a person and an artist the past two years since releasing my first project. The meaning behind the title is that I’ve always been quiet and internalize how I feel and think, but I’m not holding back anymore. What I have to say is potent and needs to be heard. So, that is where the “Siren” in Silent Siren comes in. Now that I’m finished with college it is time for people to really get to know Bria Cheri the artist. I had more input on the production side, but Donnie Klang was my go-to producer for this EP. I trust his ear for music. It is a collection of six songs and i do experiment with varying sounds and instruments. However, there is one song on “Silent Siren Vol.1” called “Somebody’s baby” that is produced by Childish Major who is another dope artist and producer. In that song I discuss my thoughts on everything going on in our country today. The release date for "Silent Siren Vol. 1" is May 29, 2019. It will be released through Bentley Records. I cannot wait for the world to hear it.

As for performances, they are in the works as we speak. I plan on having a tour and I will be hitting up the cities that have been showing me so much love and support. When everything is finalized the dates and venues will be announced. Rest assured, you will be seeing me on a stage near you in 2019!
