The song feels like one of those singles you can sit by a warm fireplace and relax too. It’s nicely fitting for the snuggling winter season that has approached us! “Julia lays in a sunshine and waits, out by the water on the bay” “And the sun goes down, and the sun goes down, where is her lover? The day is breaking over the water.” The song begins creating an atmospheric setting and musically paints a picture for us. With a delightful tune and cozy vocals from Andrea, she places you inside the colorful creation she has written for us! This song immediately brings uttermost peace and serenity. It’s difficult to listen to this song without feeling a sense of joy.

How is the music scene in Nebraska? Is it as big as the music scene in other places?

The music scene in Nebraska is supportive and diverse in style. I've definitely seen a growth in the music scene since I started playing and have appreciated the support and encouragement that's been given to me. The music scene in Omaha and Lincoln isn't as large as the major hubs, but there is definitely great music going on here in the midwest.

What inspired you to begin creating music Andrea?

I was raised in a musical family so I grew up with music all around me. I started lessons on piano and alto saxophone when I was little but quickly switched to guitar. With guitar I found the freedom to be able to sing and play and started to learn my favorite songs. I wanted to play shows but knew that if I didn't have original music, I'd only ever be playing background gigs. So I started to try my hand at writing and figured out what I wanted to say.

Where do you get most of your songwriting inspiration from?

Nature and literature. I try to read as much as I can and pull inspiration from the thoughts and feelings of the characters in novels. I love the raw and understated beauty of the prairie here in Nebraska and find that long walks in nature really clears my mind and give me space to write.

Do you have any musical influences? If so who and why?

So many! I'm a huge Paul Simon fan and started listening to him when I was 4 or 5 years old. I love that I can still put on the same record that I listened to as a child and find deeper meanings while still loving the music. I was raised on Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, James Taylor, Choral Music (my dad is a college choir director), musical soundtracks, Kurt Elling, Ben Folds, and so many other artists. It wasn't until college that I really dove into Bob Dylan, Dave van Ronk, Joni Mitchell and other folk singers. The "O Brother, Where Art Thou" soundtrack was probably the most influential album for me growing up. It was such a different sound than what was popular on the radio and showed me that people did care for this kind of raw, truthful music.

2019 is set to be a big year! Are you excited? What are you looking forward to most?

I can't wait for my first full length record to finally be out! It will be released on February 8th and then I plan to tour the midwest and east coast this spring and then hopefully west coast and maybe some international touring this summer. We'll see :)
