Angie Keys Brings All The Feels In “All the Rain”.

Writer's picture: BUZZ LABUZZ LA

Angie Keys is a singer/songwriter from Birmingham England. At the age of three she received a toy piano for Christmas and since then she has been smitten with music! She wrote her first song at age twelve for a songwriting competition and she won! Angie had a curiosity for music technology and the creation and manipulation of music fascinated her. Taking up sound engineering in college while she pursued her singing and songwriting career. Bringing us a “highly commended with special mention” track "All the Rain."

Take me away! “All the Rain” is a tune for anyone that loves a good folk, soulful country melody. She brings back that classic folk/country feel but brings it into a present-day sound. Evolutionary! The story behind this song lyrically sounds so sad but musically sounds so very beautiful. Her voice has a really lovely range giving both soft and strong keys. Production gives us the light drums, strings, and the piano, which I believe is our very own Angie. Everything just mends together so smoothly in this musical melting pot.

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Greetings! I'm Angie Keys, a singer songwriter from England. I have some music and a some stories to tell and I'd love you to have a listen. Thank you for being here :)

Can you give us a brief history of your musical career?

So it all began with a toy piano at the age of three. I began playing little concerts to my family! I was smitten. Music was already stirring emotions in me, even from a very young age and I knew I needed to chase a dream.

I wrote my first song at age 12. I won a songwriting competition, bought some music gear and got stuck in. I produced and engineered everything myself and was soon out gigging.

I also started teaching Music performance and production at my local colleges and I currently manage music courses and run a record label at Bournville college. I’ve entered Heaven Knows in the UK songwriting contest and received runner up in the folk/country category and in 2018 I received highly commended with special mention for All The Rain.

I’ve been striving for some time to finally release an album of polished tracks that totally sum up my vibe and I think 2019 is the year. I've met some fantastic musicians and now have the  opportunity and resources to fully realize my musical dream. It's very exciting!

How did you come up with your name Angie Keys? Is there a meaning behind it?

Well this one is easy! Angie is my given name, and I married a Keys ;)

Do you write your own music? Can you tell us a bit about your writing style?

I do write my own music. I love the whole process of finding a bunch of great chords, adding a melody and a story. I try to always tell a story, something about me or what I've seen. I love a great chorus, something that lifts the song and stays with you. And full of harmonies and some great little hooks that give it a personality plus something that makes it unique to anything else. I love Norah Jones and her vibe. There's always something different going on, each song has its own character whilst keeping some sweet melodic aspects that get right to your emotions. That's always been my aim.

All The Rain has such a unique sound, we LOVE it! Can you tell us a bit about it? Where did the inspiration behind the song come from?

So funny story. I’d just had a big fight with my man. One of those where you think of all the things you want to say AFTER they've walked away. I listen to music all day, every day and it helps me work a lot of things out -  the lyrics, the vibe, the energy. I put a vinyl record on and and the opening line came from there. Musically, I love the whole piano and guitar combo with a good ambient drum kit. Big rich warm sounds, really playing on those emotions with the chord changes and backing vocals. Suffice to say, we made up later that day ;)

Any upcoming shows? For someone who hasn’t seen you live yet, how would you describe your performance?

When more songs land in the ‘bag’, I hope to play some summer festivals and intimate local gigs. The vibe of my songs lend well to the smaller, more intimate crowd; for now at least. Who knows beyond that. I’m available for bookings ;) If you love music with emotion, played by some well seasoned musicians, then you’d love my gigs.

I’m also in a 9 piece soul band, playing all the soul and Motown classics and you can catch me on some big stages this year in the Midlands, UK. A little different to my original music but awesome fun ;) Find us on Facebook @soulmanifesto1

What’s next for you?

I’m heading straight to the studio. I have lots of songs to be recorded, some great musicians to work with and that dream to finally realize. I hope to see you all on the other side. Come and watch my story evolve. Peace to all.
