A musical go-getter at heart, Ashley Woodruff’s music love affair began from an early age. What began as an innocent curiosity quickly became an earnest desire and goal as she began to take vocal lessons and receive formal classical training. As time passed, this love only intensified, and the budding musician poured her artistic output into every release she could find, performing first in her native Sudbury before performing all around Ontario.
Having already received critical praise and acclaim for charming releases like her Christmas EP “A Gift For You” alongside more traditional releases like “Sweet Like Candy,” she’s admittedly set a high bar for herself with previous releases, but that’s a good problem to have.
“Free (Live off the Floor)” is a fitting representation of all the good things Woodruff has come to embody as an artist. A soft piano forms the basis of a minimalistic instrumental performance, but in this case, less is more. As the piano softy builds up, it perfectly accompanies Woodruff’s powerful and emotion-inducing vocal performance. As lines like “You’re a memory cause I am finally free” are delivered with outstanding grace and poise, you’d be hard-pressed not to feel emotions well up in you. That’s the nature of an Ashley Woodruff release: elegant, charming, and ultimately human in experience.
