Alternative rock band Brightbill formed in 2016 when lead singer and songwriter Cole Brightbill moved from Boston, MA to Philadelphia, PA. Cole was soon joined by saxophone and guitar player Craig VanRemoortel, as well as others to create and record their first project to be released in 2018. The band plays high energy live sets in venues around greater Philadelphia and the northeast. Brightbill is influenced by jam bands like Phish, The Grateful Dead, and The Dave Matthews Band, as well as modern alternative bands like The 1975, Young the Giant, and Kings of Leon.
The latest release from Brightbill is an authentic and hard-hitting new track titled “Chemistry”. Balancing light riffs and the element of horns with certain organic layers, Brightbill creates full and warming soundscapes, but drive through among these with a notably mesmerizing vocal tone and a series of ideas that provoke equally deep levels of consideration. While there are moments of experimentation and purity within “Chemistry”, the fuller soundscapes are where the more anthem-like and energizing effect lies. Brightbill paves its own way creatively, giving the band an alternative and optimistic edge that’s refreshingly freeing right now.

Hey Brightbill Congrats on the release of your new single “Chemistry”! What does this song represent for you?
Thank you! Huge thank you to Buzz Music for featuring us, it really means a whole lot! Chemistry represents a time of self reflection, referring to “the Chemistry between you and I” not between two people, but between two sides of yourself. When you have a dark side, you feed off of it, and even if it is ultimately an unhealthy part of your life, you love it and rely on it a little bit. Chemistry is about wanting to —and not wanting to— let go of those chains that bound you together.
Where is the best setting to listen to “Chemistry”, and what do you hope people take away from it?
For listening, Chemistry is available for listening on every major streaming service, and the music video is on our YouTube channel, Official Brightbill, but physically, you should listen to Chemistry anywhere you can sing along to it! It’s a rich emotional song, but it’s also energetic and catchy! We hope everyone catches the duality of the song in that way, as well as lyrically.
What are your thoughts on mainstream rock today?
Mainstream rock is really evolving, and broadening. It’s not dead, it’s just different. What it means to be rock and roll is changing, and today we see more things as rock than we ever did before. Now, almost any band with guitars could be
If you had to pick just one song in your collection to adequately describe your sound, which song would you choose and why?
Of the songs that have already been released, Chemistry is definitely the most “us” song. The two sided lyrics, the horns, the sax solo, and the hook are a really important part of our sound. There’s a song that we are currently in the process of recording that everyone in the band is freaking out about, and can’t wait to get to you, which is probably the most “us” ever, but we’ll get there when we get there ;)
What are your main aspirations as a band going forward?
This is something we’ve been talking a lot about recently. We really believe in this music, and want to take it all the way. We want to ride these songs to a place when people can hear our voice, and then use it for positive change in the world. Once we have the resources, we’d like to maybe join forces with, or start our own charity or organization to help clean up the oceans, or stop pollution. Cleaning up our planet is of paramount importance, to us and everyone. Just making noise until you’re famous is great, but it’s what you do with that fame that counts, and that’s where we’d fit in.
