Based in Chicago, MaVrick has been making his name known throughout Chicago for the last several years. A natural lyricist, rapper and performer, MaVrick has a notable way with words. His quirky wordplay is ever-present in each one of his successful releases. Building connections with his dedicated fans is something that’s extremely important to the up and coming artist. His debut EP “P.O.W.E.R”, produced by. M00nz, dropped last year and is available on all music platforms, along with 3 new singles.
MaVrick’s latest banger is an old school hip-hop inspired track titled “Someone Like You”. This track blends a smooth melody with a modern twist. “Someone Like You” starts out well and continues to build in a refreshing way throughout. There are moments of varied melody, beat refrain, and rap, that help create something structurally intentional yet still always rhythmically entrancing and connected enough to really envelop the listener. There’s a mild intensity to his vocal style and delivery, suggesting that MaVrick means what he says. Hey MaVrick! Welcome to BuzzMusic! What inspired you to first begin making music and releasing it to the public?
I usually get inspired by watching the pros do their thing. Blackthought, 9th wonder, Nas, pete rock, common just to name a few, & watching them in the studio or during interviews, etc.
You seem to be an artist that puts more thought into his lyrics than most. What can you tell us about the lyrical depth within “Someone Like You”?
I take my writing very serious... writing something that flows but also makes sense while also telling a story is a skill within its self...In the Song “Someone Like You” So my goal was to paint a vivid picture while also telling a fly story. Now when you do that, it becomes more than just rap...it becomes a song and THAT'S what sells.
Since you’ve been making music for several years, how would you compare some of the earlier material you’ve written to your newest release “Someone Like You”?
I would like to say maturity, my thought process, and a better understanding, of what it is I’m trying to deliver to my fans.
We’ve also been bumping your EP “P.O.W.E.R”! Congratulations on that. What have been some of your proudest or most memorable moments in music so far?
Thank you! I truly appreciate it, And I’m honored!!
Memorable moments for me. Would be releasing my first EP, Titled P.O.W.E.R performing at the Bantu fest, Also at EyeScream Media Awards Show.
And testing my skills with The ChiCity Cypher & Bombay Boyz just to name a few memorable moments.
We really appreciate you chatting with us about your incredible music! What’s next for you artistically? Does your creativity manifest itself in other ways?
What’s next for me. Shooting a music video for latest single, and what’s to come. Gearing up to Traveling to different states & countries to perform. Another form of my creative expression is through the graphic arts. When I’m not rocking the stage with clever wordplay, I’m designing logos, business cards, and graphic tees, just to name a few.
