Armed with her enchanting voice, captivating melodies and heart-engaging lyrics, Ela Dawn is a international, electronic-house-pop singer songwriter. Interlacing her music with soothing compositions and meaningful life experience. Her atmospheric and electrifying single “Black Waters” abducts you into a different realm you won’t want to escape. The gaudy sound and nomadic lyricism creates a heavenly tune we can become immensely submerged in. I loved the augmented and dramatic vibe. It’s slightly cinematic yet incredibly emotional where our sentimental feelings can come alive. The song breathes life into your closed off thoughts and emotions. It’s powerful and Ela Dawn conveyed the significant amount of passion with her dignified, distinguished and impressive voice that’s almost stamped into your memory! She’s a dynamic and powerful singer that can carry her single from start to finish. Despite the beautiful resonance and other worldly sound, “Black Waters” is effective in having you float in the music.

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
My name is Daniela Krook, I'm a 25 year old singer/songwriter. I also have a bachelors degree in pre-school teaching and have been working with children for a couple of years around my home town Jakobstad, Finland. As a person I am very determined and stubborn, I don't give up easily and when I set my mind to something I work hard to get it. I used to be very self conscious and others opinions of me weighed more than my own, that is something I have had to work a lot to get better at.
I've also never been interested in having a "normal" 9 to 5 job. That has never made me completely happy, to want to continue doing it for years to come. I've always dreamed of being a singer, but I've only watched other singers on TV growing up, envied them and thinking that that was in another world, a fantasy that was impossible to reach. But through life you learn a lot and that is what has gotten me to where I am today.
Can you give us a brief history of your musical career?
Growing up I was heavily influenced by my dad's interest in music and observing him at the piano made me want to start playing too. Early on, I was introduced to bands and artists like Abba, Elvis Presley and Spice girls, a mix of Swedish and international artists and bands. Music has always been a part of my life and I began taking voice lessons at the age of 15 and taught myself to play piano. When i wrote my first song at the age of 17 it became very clear to me that a career in music was my "end-all", but it wasn't until I studied to become a pre-school teacher and I had a girl in my class that had been recording music with Jonas Ekman and Sarah Kelly in Houston, Texas that I knew what my next step was.
After finishing school and saving up enough money I traveled to Houston for three months in spring of 2018 to study under 2X Grammy Nominee Sarah Kelly, and record with Jonas Ekman of SWEEKMAN PRODUCTIONS. As part of my training, I also served as a house writer for Sarah Kelly music school, which is an artist development program that is attracting music industry corporations such as Capitol CMG, AWAL publishing, and KOBALT music group. SKMS's songwriting program is a revolutionary songwriter development model that has been coined by Mike Clink (Grammy co-chair, producer of Guns N' Roses) as the "future of music", making it possible to collaborate with upcoming songwriters that already has been placed on the Grammy ballot.
Going back home for a while to Finland after spending three months in the US I quickly flew back to Houston in August 2018 and at that time SWEEKMAN ARTISTS had been created, a record label distributed by AWAL, which is kobalt's alternative to the traditional record label for independent artists. As of October 2018 I was signed with Sweekman artists and released my first single Upstream. My second single was released on November 9th and December 7th will mark the date of my third, which also will make the EP complete.
How did you come up with your name? Is there a meaning behind it?
As an artist I go under Ela Dawn, which comes from re-arranging my name and the spelling of it(DawnEla), making it more original. Daniela is very common name in the US and we wanted it to be no one with the same artist name.
Do you write your own music? Can you tell us a bit about your writing style?
Being part of SKMS's writing program I have developed my own writing a lot and it has given me new ways to write and different ways to build it from start to finish. Being Swedish and Finnish speaking and having English as my third language it can give me challenges sometimes. Even if I'm fluent in English I still lack words in my vocabulary and when I'm writing a song I often jump between the languages to find the right words to use, I learn a lot through-out the process. Song ideas often come to me when I'm sitting at the piano, putting together random chord progressions and just improvising.
We’re really into your new song! Can you tell us a bit about it?Where did the inspiration behind the song come from?
Black Waters is the exception when it comes to how I usually start writing my songs and it came to life after getting the idea of writing a song completely filled with metaphors. I also had a lot on my mind after letting go of a lifelong friendship and the message in the song leaned towards that. I wanted to write Black waters so that everyone could build their own story around it and the song is about having hope of regaining something that you've lost or rebuild a relationship that is broken and has fallen apart. Even in the darkest of times you still have hope to get through it. Also writing black waters together with two other artists and throwing ideas at each other made the message in the song fuller and more alive.
What are three things you’d love your fans to know about you?
The main things I want everyone to know is that my goals in my career is to inspire, to get my music out there and to have people enjoy it. Music is what I live for and with every decision and road I take on my journey I want to stay authentic and true to who I am as an artist and person. With every song I release I share a part of myself with the world and I enjoy doing that. I hope everyone listening to my music will find something that inspires them and helps them grow. My music journey is side to side with everyone I cross paths with and my music career will grow together with everyone part of it.
What’s next for Ela Dawn?
At the moment I'm planning shows, single release parties, getting my music out to new crowds and enjoying this journey that I'm on. I'm currently in Finland and I'm playing a few shows around here and my goals right now is to make myself heard and hopefully in the future be able to move to the US to further pursue my music career.
