Throughout life, we will all experience intense joy and deep depression. There is seemingly an endless supply of lightweight music within the music industry, and while there's nothing wrong with music that addresses the "high" of life, rapper Eric Champlin believes it completely alienates the demographic of people who struggle with the difficulties being weighed down by the weight of the world. He has always had a fascination with abstract wordplay, and he decided to tap into an idle talent by writing the lyrics to "Silence (feat. Mikayla Jackson)" during a really dark season of his life. He hopes you will feel comforted by this song, reminding you that you're not alone and that you find peace in silence!
From Mikayla’s emotive, soft, and melodic vocals to Eric’s consistency and absolutely insane quick flow, they deliver a thought-provoking and hard-hitting song that reaches out to a community who needs a hand reached out to them. Attacking the topic of depression, peer-pressure and social anxiety, Eric upholds the uppermost courage and bravery to lyrically convey the personal diary of not only himself but others. “Silence” is intimate and dark however the main message is the art of rejoice. Eric has the ability to connect with those who feel lost and under-appreciated and lend a hug through their ears with his music. It’s truly a special song delivered by a special individual who can relate to his own music and show off his authenticity as an artist.

Eric we appreciate you sharing your story to many within this song, how did it feel to open yourself up to the world?
I was actually much more nervous than I was expecting to be upon the release of "Silence." Not only because it was my first song, but because the lyrics are incredibly vulnerable. I had no idea how the public was going to react to such a deep song, and that was nerve-racking.
Do you feel as if songwriting comes easy when you have something to say?
I'd consider myself more of a lyricist because of my fascination behind abstract wordplay, so I find it relatively easy to convey my message through a clever sequence of words. The tricky part, for me, is trying to compliment the sequence of words with a commercial melody and catchy hooks. Luckily, I have a pretty solid team behind me to help me with that!
In your opinion, do you feel like depression is widely ignored by individuals and we need to become more fully aware, especially in our youth?
Yes, however I'm glad to see mental health awareness spreading. With songs like "1-800-273-8255" by Logic (feat. Alessia Cara) and concerts connected to the organization "To Write Love On Her Arms" - I believe we are pushing our agenda forward by providing hope for a lost generation. My personal favorite non-profit organization is HeartSupport, founded by Jake Luhrs (the lead singer of the Grammy-nominated band, August Burns Red).
You did a wonderful job conveying your true message behind this song, mind going over it one last time for our readers who may not have caught the meaning behind “Silence” ?
Throughout life, we will all experience intense joy and deep depression. There is seemingly an endless supply of lightweight music within the music industry, and while there's nothing wrong with music that addresses the "high" of life, I believe it completely alienates the demographic of people who struggle with the difficulties of being weighed down by the weight of the world. The lyrics to "Silence" were written during a really dark season of my life, however the lyrics were carefully crafted in a way that comforts its listeners, being reminded that they're not alone in the fight.
