British guitar-pop trio Club Drive return with their brand new single, ‘WDYD’. Opening with an infectious guitar riff, the track is just under three and a half minutes of pure pop perfection featuring slick vocals, sharp lyricism and deliciously funky melodies.
‘WDYD’ follows previous singles ‘International’, ‘Spare Time’ and ‘Voyager’, which enjoyed strong support from radio stations around the world, not least of all the UK’s very own BBC Radio 1 ... DJs including Alice Levine, Clara Amfo, Greg James, Scott Mills and Adele Roberts.
The band have gone from strength to strength, with sell out headline shows, festival main stage performances and a live performance that packs all the punch to render this credible.

We had the chance to talk to Club Drive about their new song and the inspiration and writing style behind it. Check it out below!
Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Absolutely. So we’re Aaron, Tommy & Christian – otherwise known as Club Drive. We’re a 3 piece Pop/Funk band from the UK and we’re hoping if you’re reading this that you’ll be curious enough to check out our music and see what you think 😊
Tell us a bit about your new song and the writing style behind it
Our new song WDYD’ aka What Do You Do?.. came about at a real turning point in writing our most recent record. We’d spent a long time writing a bunch of ideas that just weren’t sitting quite right with us. It was only as we started to write WDYD that it was the first idea all 3 of us instantly connected with, and from there on it really started to shape the sound of the whole record. The writing style for this particular song was interesting, with some songs it can take a long time to construct the whole thing and be completely happy with it, but with this song, as soon as the instrumental was completed the vocals followed quite quickly with this and the chorus melody was written almost as soon as the music for the chorus was completed.
Where did the inspiration behind the song come from?
In truth, we were in a bit of weird place at the time, in terms of what the band was doing, and felt like a lot of the hard work and efforts of our previous singles and tours last year had started to calm down. It’s easy during these times to lose sight of why we do what we do and at the same time there were various pressures on us in other areas of our lives too. Writing WDYD was almost a chance to get all of that off our chest and start fresh, so it really helped us get back into the right headspace and lyrically the song is about making sure when things get really difficult to remember that nothing happens overnight and if you want something... go out and make it happen.
What are the top 3 things you would love your fans to know about you on the more personal side of things?
Good question… and a tough one too! I guess one of the main things for us is, what you see is what you get. With so many artists, their on stage or public persona’s are almost like characters they’ve been told to play.. but with Club Drive it’s the opposite. We are exactly who we are, from the music we play, to the clothes we wear and everything in between it’s always been about being ourselves and not the next somebody else. Another thing that’s important to us (hence the premise of WDYD), is to work hard for something. If in years to come Club Drive is still touring and writing music, it should be because we’ve all put years of hard work and effort into it, we’re not the sort of band to expect things given to us and we all work around the clock on all aspects of the band because we still love doing what we do!
Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who hasn’t seen you live yet, how would you explain your live performance?
At the moment we only have shows here in the UK planned although the bigger plan is of course to head out to EU, USA and other parts of the world once the record picks up traction in those areas. For us it really is down to the listeners.. so if you hear it and you like it, share it around and tell people about it. Live is exactly what Club Drive is about… high energy, excitement and 100% into every show! It’s always been the thing that kick started our love for music and in our minds going to a gig is completely unparalleled for the feeling it gives you, even as a spectator. So if you ever get the chance to come and see us live, grab a ticket and come see what Club Drive is about!
