Dirty Luxe is an alternative pop band based in Los Angeles, which consists of three members. Dirty Luxe combines elements of modern alternative anthems with notable sounds of 80s synth pop. With this, they produce a nostalgic and innovative sound that will cater to lovers of music.
“South of Tokyo”, is Dirty Luxe’s newest single off of their upcoming debut EP, which is set be released for next year. As the listener we are met with a cool intro. The intro captures the listener and brings them into a setting of what we can assume would be Tokyo. Reminiscent of Tokyo with the little “boppy” jingles inserted in and with an upbeat chorus we are fully sucked into the song. The synths are heavy while in harmony with some cool tones aided by the groove of the bass in combination of the drums. The vocals are perfectly distinctive with the right amount of distortion. The progression of the song has a nice build up that ultimately leads to the finishing chorus. A really cool addition for your playlist. They are a great band added to the alternative pop music world, be sure to check them out on their YouTube and Instagram.
We had the pleasure of interviewing Dirty Luxe, to find out what's upcoming from the indie pop trio!
Care to introduce yourselves to our readers?
We’d love to. We’re Dirty Luxe, an indie pop trio from Los Angeles, California. Comprised of lead singer Branson Bond, drummer Chris Noggle, and bassist Geo Pavia. More importantly, we’re just three close friends making music we love.
How long have you all known each other? How did you meet?
The three of us met in high school and bonded over a love for many of the same artists. As soon as we graduated high school, Geo bought a bass guitar and approached us with the idea of finally making our own music like we had always talked about doing.
How has your music evolved since you first began playing music together a band?
We began making music with absolutely no budget. Just an amp, an old drum kit and the Garage Band app on our iPhones. A year later we were a fully fledged collective writing and recording alternative pop songs in a professional recording studio.
We absolutely love your new song! Can you tell us a bit about it and the writing process behind it?
We began writing “South of Tokyo” late last year after composing a catchy lead synth melody with the Animoog app on an iPhone. We initially shelved the idea, unsure of how we were going to build the track on top of the lead synth. A few months later, we revisited the melody on a whim. We wrote a bass line, a vocal melody, added some drums, and the concept began to flourish. After three intense and lengthy studio sessions, “South of Tokyo” had finally come to life.
Where did the inspiration behind this song come from?
We were initially inspired by an encounter with an old friend from high school who discussed her recent trip to visit family, just south of Tokyo, Japan. When she began to describe where she had visited, she illustrated a beautifully vast, unknown place. We knew it was the perfect setting for a story that dealt with a long distance relationship that ultimately resulted in failure.
Any upcoming shows in the near future? For a new fan who hasn’t seen you live yet, how would you describe your live performance?
We’ve yet to play any live shows, but are looking forward to be performing live early next year.
What’s next for the band?
We’re currently in the studio, working hard on our debut EP, which will be dropping in the very near future. We’re extremely excited to release a project that showcases material that fuses modern indie pop with many elements of 80’s electropop. We can’t wait for you all to hear it!
