Exclusive: PoppySeed Releases New Single "Hideaway"

After his rhythmic, up-beat single ‘Good Vibes Only’ artist PoppySeed returned with a masterful, emotional piece titled ‘Hideaway’ Hideaway is a song that has many layers to it and it isn’t a surface comprehensive single. It’s very compelling as Poppy sings metaphorically about a shadow and being somewhat invisible to somebody. The instrumental has a resounding, empathetic and unmistakable feeling to it that’s good for triggering off certain emotions and thoughts while listening to it. One thing I like most about Poppy is his artistry. He’s able to crossover himself in multiple genres and blend well with various tempos. He’s an artist that holds great versatility and it’s proven with ‘Hideaway’ which is the perfect follow up from ‘Good Vibes Only’. I’m personally all for getting sappy and in my feels and I feel like this song is a perfect component for that! I listened to Poppy's rap singles and heard the tone that was there and thought to myself that this artist would make a great singing track! Hideaway showcases his beautiful and hollow tone and you’re able to hear how fluent his vocals are. The beat has a slow tempo but it sets a setting for the song and I enjoy that factor. I can imagine myself listening to it on a road trip or put myself in a place where it’s night and I’m just relaxing, enjoying the breeze, stars, and the great musical content flowing in my ears. Listen to "Hideaway" here.

We had the chance to get the exclusive with PoppySeed, and learn his amazing journey both in life and his music career. Listen to his new single "Hideaway".

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

I'm an entrepreneur residing in Vancouver BC. I’m owner/part owner in a few businesses. I was born in Nelson BC, went to high school in White Rock and moved to VanCity in 2010.

Can you give us a brief history of your musical career?

I’ve always loved music. For me it was a getaway, somewhere else to exist when things got too much. Music is therapy.  I started freestyling in high school. After high school I built a little homemade studio. I used a bent hanger with pantyhose around it as a spit guard for the mic. When I moved to Vancouver I started vocal training at Cloud 30 and recording at award winning Creativ Studios.  I’ve opened for Raekwon, MosDef twice, toured western Canada and Europe.  I’m currently working on projects with producers and songwriters from Vancouver and Toronto.

How did you come up with your name? Is there a meaning behind it?

PoppySeed. Was a name given to me when I lived in a shack that only had running water out of one faucet. I was 16. I was down. DOWN to make it out of that situation by any means necessary. I was addicted, addicted to music, my therapeutic escape. That was my drug. I could get lost in its infinite possibilities. One of the strongest medicines comes from Poppy Seeds. So I resemble that source. I want my music to ease the pain.

Do you write your own music? Can you tell us a bit about your writing style?

I do write my own music, but I have also co-written with other established songwriters.  I gather inspiration mostly from experience... a little from observation. First person experience is usually the rawest form of expression for me. I believe It also allows me to be the most vulnerable version of myself, which can be scary but also a good thing. When it’s just you in the earphones of the listener they can connect and channel your feelings, syncing their emotions to yours. That’s when the real connections can be made.

We’re really into your new song! Can you tell us a bit about it?

My new song Hideaway tells the story about the immediate habits that follow the events of a break-up and how lovers became strangers again.

Where did the inspiration behind the song come from?

This song was written about a personal experience that I went through, that most people go through.

What are three things you’d love your fans to know about you?

Three things about me. I love outdoor activities like biking and snowboarding, I ride a Harley and I’ve got a few tattoos.

Any upcoming shows? For someone who hasn’t seen you live yet, how would you describe your performance?

We’re prepping for shows right now. I want to give the fans something great, and that takes time. My team is planning for early 2019, starting in my home city of Vancouver.  It shall be an exhilarating experience for all.

What’s next for you?

More music, more shows & more life!
