How has your music evolved since you first began playing music together a band?
Obviously, we feel that we have become overall better musicians and a tighter band, since we have been playing together for many years. The older we get, the more open we are to different styles of music and I think that has helped us expand our musical direction as our tastes have evolved.
We absolutely love your new song "Tonight"! Can you tell us a bit about it and the writing process behind it?
It started out as a riff that I (Rocky) wrote on the piano and had stuffed away on my phone memos. One day, looking for inspiration, I went to the memo and began adding to the riff and our drummer at the time began jamming a sick beat to it. We all loved it and we knew we had to keep going with this one.
Where did the inspiration behind "Tonight" come from? What was the writing process like?
The lyrics and message of the song were inspired by the phrase “carpe diem” which means “seize the day”. We took that idea of living in the now and framed it around seizing “Tonight” or a love interest.
Have you performed "Tonight" live?
Yes, we have, but only in it’s skeletal form. We are excited to play it live for our fans now that the record is out!
Any upcoming shows in the near future? For a new fan who hasn’t seen you live yet, how would you describe your live performance?
We are getting ready to book some shows in LA area and also along the west coast where have built up good following and a great relationship with many venues. We also would love to go to and tour Iceland and Japan where we also have open doors. I would describe our live show as exciting and multi-faceted not only from music variety perspective but also from the visual and entertainment aspect. We play authentic old-school Russian cartoons as part of our visuals that sync perfectly with our music. We also love to experiment with various fun gimmicks that bring something unique and entertaining to the table.
Who are you current favorite bands/artists in the charts right now?
We think that Twenty One Pilots have a cool thing going right now that we can all learn from. Our all-time favorites tho are Radiohead, Tool, Muse, and Sigur Ros. Our music is a rough blend of those bands. At least we think so!
We have another five singles that are going to be released one after another, hopefully in conjunction with some live dates. We are also writing a few brand new songs that we are about to track and hoping to get them done and release right after these five singles. Our live show has been our backbone for years and we know we are good at it, right now tho we are trying to create a lot of quality content quickly and stay consistent in getting it out there. What’s next for Standing Before Kings?
