Serenity is an independent singer/songwriter and recording artist from South Africa. Serenity has been writing original songs since she was 8 years old, but only started singing in front of people when she was 16, due to her low self-confidence that stemmed from her being bullied for being overweight. After a year long hiatus from the music industry, and some time spent abroad in Los Angeles and London, the 24 year old is back with a new sound that can best be described as Future Pop or Pop Soul. She found her own authentic sound and finally started being honest with herself. Serenity makes music because she loves it, her philosophy is to make whatever she does in life count and to learn and grow in the process.
“Goddess” is a brilliant new single from Serenity and we can’t get enough. All about self-worth and empowerment, “Goddess” is an adrenaline shot of confidence and attitude. Serenity blends her hard-hitting vocal register with a future-pop sound arrangement. I love the lyrics on the track, they are finely-tuned, meaningful and so important in today’s society. Seeing powerful woman using their music as an outlet to spread important messages is so admirable. The impressive pop track “Goddess” sheds light on the sense of self-worth that every young woman should have. It’s a contagious energy and we can’t wait to hear more from Serenity.

Hey Serenity! Welcome to BuzzMusic! How did you decide you wanted to pursue music?
Hi! Thank you so much! Haha I have always kind of known I wanted to be a singer, but it was when I was 15 and I had just moved back to South Africa from the US that my parents sat me down and asked me what I actually wanted to do with my life. It was then that my father got me an audition for the Campus of Performing Arts in Johannesburg where I studied for 2 1/2 years and decided to pursue music.
Who are you musical inspirations?
When I was little, I was slightly obsessed with Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. But now I would say that my musical inspirations are artists like Banks, Dua Lipa, Billie Eilish, and all the other amazing women making waves and changing the game in the music industry today, and of course all the women who paved the way for us, like: Etta James, Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, and Madonna to name only a few.
Is there a specific event in your life that influenced your writing style?
I have always been a bit of a storyteller, even when I was very young. I think the fact that I used to write fictional stories for fun when I was 12 definitely played a role in developing style, and helped me talk about things in a creative way while still being honest with myself and others. I draw inspiration from my personal experiences and there are a few events I could isolate that would explain my writing style, but you'll hear all about those moments on the EP when it drops later this year.
Let’s talk about “Goddess”, what do you want the listener to take away from this single?
I want someone to listen to Goddess, and appreciate themselves. I want them to realise that their worth doesn't stem from external sources, but rather from something pure and beautiful within. I want the listener to feel powerful and know that it's okay to be soft and vulnerable, or strong, or both simultaneously, because a Goddess is never just ONE thing, and that's the beauty of it.
What can your listeners and fans expect next from you!?
I'm really excited about my next single dropping this month! It's called, "Sucker" and it's basically me making fun of myself and my monumentally bad taste when it comes to my 'type.' It's very playful and experimental and I can assure you, you've never heard anything like it. As for what comes after this, well the EP is called Undiscovered - The Re-Write and it's all about self-discovery, so you'll really get to know me and my sound, which much like a Goddess, isn't just one thing.
