Gil Gatsby is a gifted hip-hop artist from Inglewood, California. Musically, Gil is best known for his vocal tone, wordplay and witty delivery to captivate his audience. With a genre that has been over saturated with content about fame, money and hustle, Gil focuses on making an impact and encouraging people to be great and live a life of hope and leaving a legacy. After a health scare that almost took Gil’s life, he took a moment to reevaluate his career and the reason that he makes music. Gil’s contagious track “Glory” is a dope new track that sheds light on Gil’s come up. His ferocious bars showcase his obvious excellence but Gil Gatsby remains humble and flawless. He dropped a dope new music video with hard-hitting visuals that highlight his confident swagger and aesthetic. The raw and powerful vibe exuded throughout this track is admirable. Hey Gil! Welcome to BuzzMusic! Can you start by telling us a little bit about yourself and how you got started making music?

Thank you for having me. It’s a blessing to connect with Buzz Music. I started doing music when I was 15 years old. I was always an athlete (basketball),but all my friends wanted to rap so I started rapping just to fit in with the fellas and fell in love with the craft and never let go.

What are your thoughts on the hip-hop music scene today?

Hip hop is a bit over saturated but you got to love it. As long as you are saying something creative and pushing the culture forward I salute you. My only issue with the genre at this point is there are more artist than consumers. Everybody raps now. You cant even go to the gas station without the cashier telling you check out my new video while you pump gas. Its crazy out here lol.

Let’s talk about your track “Glory”! What inspired this song and what was the writing process like?

Glory was inspired by my recent health scare. While driving I ended up having a stroke that paralyzed the right side of my body, after coming home a week later fully recovered. My thoughts were I’m here because of Gods Glory and I want that to be displayed in the music. So this song was a statement. As soon as I heard the beat I hit the booth a let’s the bars fly the song was written and recorded in about 35-40 mins.

We love your authentic sound! Do you have any specific musical influences you pull inspiration from?

Growing up my favorite Emcee was Biggie Smallz. My voice has always been dominate, so emcees with that distinct voice always stood out artists like , Redman, and Method Man And Rick Ross always inspired because of the voice and delivery. My main motivation now a days is the people I want to release music that will inspire everyone to live and Win.

What’s next for you? Sunday Shoes!

That’s my main focus. Sunday Shoes was created to give people a soundtrack for the world to ride to. 13 records with flow, contents, crazy production and love Gods love And love for Hip Hop. This is a timeless body of work.
