Gráinne Duffy is a singer-songwriter from Castleblayney, Co. Monaghan, Ireland who has an incredibly unique voice. While growing up she sang in her local choir, her family band, and session work for various bands across Italy and France. Her early influences accredit to her mother who allowed the family to get a new record for special events and listen together. Some of her influences are icons Aretha Franklin, The Pretenders, The Pretenders, The Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac and Peter Green who she cites as being her main blues guitar influence.

Gráinne Duffy's latest single "Blue Sky" is an incredibly catchy rocking modern Blues Rock track that features her sweet unique almost raspy voice, a honking solid guitar riff, and polished sounding drums. The song opens up with its iconic guitar riff, then when the verse begins it flips to a patient chugging backbone that leaves space for Gráinne's memorable melodies and vocal performance. The highlight of the song is instantly when the chorus hits, from the choral singalong-like melody and lyrics to the rocking band in the back, "Blue Sky" is a track that will stay singing in our heads for a long time.

Listen to "Blue Sky" here.

Hey there Gráinne! Welcome to Buzz Music! We're absolutely loving your latest single "Blue Sky", could you talk to us a bit how the song came to be - the songwriting and production of it? Cool, I’m delighted you're enjoying it. This was a song that started while I was in my home studio. I was thinking of how I would love to have something fun and upbeat to sing about and then this lyric and chord progression just came under my fingers which was really nice. Production-wise we wanted it to be punchy and maybe have a little bit of Joe Walsh style R’n’R!

Your vocal performance is truly something special, did the intricacies of your vocal performance (eg your voice squeaks) come naturally during the performance or did you try to intentionally sing the perfect intricacy? No, the squeaks are all-natural! This was just a straight-up go for it vocal take.

It's fantastic to see that you're playing shows in both North America and Europe, is there anything specific to you about performing live that makes you want to keep performing? Yes, Live is where my heart is. I love the energy of playing live. Every performance gives you something new and fresh energy in your music which I love. It brings me to life every time. We can't wait to see what else you have in store for us to hear! Are you working on anything new that you'd be able to share with us? Oh yes - there’s a new album in the pipeline. It’s nearly finished which I am super excited about too. I’ve been working with some really fine musicians Paul Sherry and Dale Davis with producer Troy Miller in London which I have been really enjoying too. I hope you’ll dig it.

Do you have any goals for 2020 that you'd like to achieve? Too many! We are playing Glastonbury which is a good start but making as many new fans as possible is my main goal!
