CAT, a self proclaimed new wave junkie who released her brightest single "Strawberry Milkshake" which embodies all elements of her artistry that is art pop. CAT's new single "Strawberry Milkshake" is cute, fun, in your face and bold! The beginning of the song starts off with an increase of synthetic sounds that stops as soon as CAT starts singing. The synthetic buildup in the beginning of the song feels like you’re getting ready to enter a whole new dimension. It’s really cool because the whole backtrack kind of gives you a feeling of the classic days of the ‘let loose have fun era’ of the 60s-80s. It has a classic drum kick with a modern flare. CAT's voice is very alternative and edgy but it’s unorthodox and fitting.
"Strawberry Milkshake" is a single that will throw you into a whole different mood and musically take over your body. CAT uses elements of classic pop and rock and you can tell she incorporated that into SM. She reminds me of a modern day ‘BLONDIE’ which was an influential, and Iconic pop-rock b,and back in the late 70’s. I love vintage music and vintage feelings and It’s cool that CAT takes you into a older era without losing the contemporary vibe. This single has the qualities of attracting an established and mainstream audience as well. The song has prospective traits that will be beneficial for the artist and her personal Journey. Another neat feature about this is her ability to showcase her different range at different points in the song. "Strawberry Milkshake" is an amusing Jam and will be one of many CAT’s Hits as an indie artist. Check it out for yourself!

Care to introduce yourself to our readers? Can you give us a brief history of your musical career?
I’m CAT (Catherine Rose Lev), a twenty-two year old living in Los Angeles from Chicago, Illinois. I’m currently finishing up my last year studying acting at The University of Southern California. I’ve been writing and songwriting since I can remember. I have been making music and performing around the LA area for the past year and just marked the anniversary of my first solo singing project, a cover of Lana Del Rey’s Video Games. I came out with an 80’s prom horror movie- themed music video last spring titled, “Noah”. The song was written for me by my best friend. I am currently writing and recording new originals.
How did you come up with your name? Is there a meaning behind it?
I never really felt like a Catherine and spent a lot of my childhood finding new ways to “spice” up the name. “Cat” is my family nickname and started when we were living in Japan and China. It’s what my friends and family call me and writing it in all caps became an expressive way for me to identify myself! It’s who I am.
Do you write your own music? Can you tell us a bit about your writing style?
I write my own music. My new song, “Strawberry Milkshake,” is my songwriting debut. My writing style is constantly changing. Sometimes I switch between playing piano by ear to work out something in my head or allow a melody to come up on its's own. I do a lot of my writing in my car, or at the gym. That’s where I do my best and focused thinking. My songs are a way of storytelling; sometimes my songs stem from personal memories, and/or feelings or sometimes they’re observations and fantasies. I like switching up my song style/writing. I hate being bored or boxed. If a style or melody fits the mood of the song, that’s usually where I run with it.
We really love your new song "Strawberry Milkshake"! Can you tell us a bit about it? Where did the inspiration behind the song come from?
Thank you! Strawberry Milkshake is about who I was when I was sixteen and where I was in my life: I was in a relationship that wasn’t right for me, living in my hometown with a fresh license and a need for speed to cruise down winding roads. I was in the car with my boyfriend at the time and we were driving in awkward silence. I wasn’t happy and knew that I deserved to be. Strawberry Milkshake is about freeing yourself and getting what you deserve, finding self worth and drinking milkshakes.
What’s next for CAT?
My next show will be at The Mint LA on October 19th! I have a Strawberry Milkshake video in the works, along with another single release in the near future, and lots more writing! I’m really excited for what’s coming up in the future with my music.
