Describing the type of music IWestWest writes is actually close to impossible. It could be labeled as Hip-Hop due to the instruments used but the lyrics portray a different story than the music prevalent today. His lyrical words tells a story reminiscent of the true roots of Hip-Hop music and if you listen closely you might learn something new! He infuses world history along with his life history to educate and enlighten his listeners. With musical influences ranging from Tupac to LL Cool J, IWestWest is inspired by all the true Hip-Hop goats that can be beneficial to his career today.
His single “STATUS” was a fresh, intricate, and wavy hit! With a rap voice that’s nothing less than unfamiliar, he proved to us why he’s the new upcoming prophecy in the music game. The beat has a dope, hard-hitting flare to it that’s so “mean” it’s engrossing to hear. His lyricism is catchy, metaphorical, and proficient. IWestWest noticed the impact music has on society when he was a little kid. The way tunes can generate certain thoughts, feelings, and behaviours especially in the younger generation is the power behind music. IWestWest knows of this affect, so instead he tries to promote an in depth lyricism that can be blended with trendy and catchy wordplay.
A nice factor about the artist himself besides the fact that he’s a creditable lyricist, is the way he embodies and enjoys Black History, politics, and culture. Educating himself on the black community is a way to connect even more. IWestWest isn’t your average Hip-Hop artist. He’s an artist whom is equipped with significant strategy and talent. We can definitely tell his future in music is looking a little bright.

OF COURSE, IM WORLDWIDE FAMOUS I WEST WEST, NO JOKE. YOU GOTTA SPEAK THESE THINGS INTO EXISTENCE FEEL ME.
Can you tell us a bit about your new single "Status"
YEAH, THE SINGLE “STATUS” KINDA JUST HAPPENED . IT WAS ACTUALLY THE FIRST SONG I RECORDED AFTER NOT BEING IN THE STUDIO OR WORKING ON MUSIC IN A WHILE.. I NEEDED TO GET THE CREATIVE JUICES FLOWING SO I HIT MY HOMIE LUCKIE LUCCI AND TOLD HIM FALL THRU ON ONE OF MY RECORDING SESSIONS AT ARKATEK . IT WAS REALLY EVERYONE INVOLVED THAT MADE THAT SONG .. MY ENGINEER C. SUAVE, LUCKIE LUCCI, & MY JEWELERS STATUS JEWELS, HINTS THE NAME “STATUS “. EVERYONE HAD INPUT ON THAT TRACK. I REALLY DIDNT EVEN HAVE A NAME FOR IT UNTIL WE DID THE VIDEO FOR IT. I TOLD LUCK THAT I DIDNT WANT TO JUST DUPLICATE NAMES WITH TRACKS I WANTED SOMETHING ELSE & HE WAS LIKE WHY NOT JUST NAME IT STATUS. WHICH FIT PERFECT REALLY BECAUSE AFTER ALL WE DID SHOOT THE VIDEO IN STATUS JEWELS.
You knew ever since you were young that you were meant to be a lyricist, when was the first time you’ve written a song and what was it called?
ABSOLUTELY I DID, IVE ALWAYS BEEN BIG ON WORDS AND THE INFLUENCE OF WORDS TO THE MIND. ITS JUST AMAZING TO ME THE WAY SPELLS WORK. I PEEPED THIS VERY YOUNG. MY MOTHER & FATHER DID MUSIC ALSO SO IT WAS NATURAL FOR ME. MY OLD MAN ACTUALLY WROTE “SECRET LOVER” (ATLANTIC STAR) & HIS BAND MADE “CARIBBEAN QUEEN”, WHICH BILLY OCEAN THEM STOLE AND NEVER COMPENSATED THEM FOR. WHEN I WAS ABOUT 10 OR SO MY BROTHERS AND I RECORDED A SONG CALLED “DO YOU CARE” WHICH WAS STOLEN FROM US ALSO ,LOL BY BIZZY BONE FROM BONE THUGS LOL.. REAL SHIT. HE PUT IT ON AND ALBUM HE RELEASED CALLED “THE GIFT” & TITLED THE SONG “JESUS “. WHICH IS FUNNY YOU STEAL A SONG FROM SOME KIDS THEN NAME IT JESUS.. BUT YEAH THAT JUST LET US KNOW WE HAD SOMETHING GREAT REALLY YOUNG. LITERALLY I WAS ABOUT 7 YRS OLD WHEN WE CAME UP WITH THAT SONG. WE DIDNT ACTUALLY RECORD IT UNTIL LATER. BUT ITS EVIDENCE OF ME WRITING AND MAKING MUSIC EVEN IN PRE-SCHOOL. THATS HOW I LEARNED MY ADDRESS, PHONE NUMBER AND JUST EXPRESSED MYSELF.
Knowing that you’ve been compared by your peers to someone as great and legendary as ‘Tupac’ have you ever felt pressured to amount to the level and legacy ‘Tupac’ left on us?
I HATE & LOVE THAT COMPARISON AT THE SAME TIME LOL. BUT I UNDERSTAND WHAT THEY MEAN WHEN THEY SAY THAT TO ME. REALLY I THINK IM WHO PAC WAS TALKING ABOUT WHEN HE SAID HIS LYRICS WILL SPARK THE MIND OF THE ONE TO COME AFTER HIM. I DONT REALLY FEEL ANY PRESSURE THO , BECAUSE IM STILL IN MY OWN LANE. I REALLY MIGHT BE BETTER THAN PAC, I KNOW IF HE WAS HERE I COULD DEFINITELY HOLD MY OWN ON A TRACK WITH HIM AND THE PPL WOULDNT MISS A BEAT . RIGHT NOW THEY’RE OVERLOOKING ME JUST LIKE THEY DID PAC. CRAZY THING IS I ACTUALLY KNOW HIS SISTER LOL., SEKYIWA. I MET HER IN ATLANTA IN LIKE 05’/06’. I HAVE HELLA LOVE FOR PAC, HELLA LOVE FOR HIS ENTIRE FAMILY.
How influential do you think the study of Black Culture and History has been on your music and why?
WELL ITS VERY INFLUENTIAL IN MY MUSIC. MORE SO IN MY EARLIER RECORDINGS THAN NOW. ONE REASON BEING THAT I READ A LOT, BOOKS OR INFORMATION RATHER SUCKS ME IN. AND I WANT OTHERS TO KNOW WHAT I KNOW SO I’D INCORPORATE THAT IN MY MUSIC. THE OTHER REASON IS BECAUSE I AM A BLACK MAN AND ITS NOTHING MORE IMPORTANT THAN TO KNOW THE TRUTH, YOUR TRUTH. WITH THAT COMES A LOT OF RESEARCH AND SHOCK LOL. LIKE YOU REALLY HAVE TO BREAK YOURSELF DOWN TO THE NOTHINGNESS OF YOURSELF AND BE PREPARED TO BUILD YOURSELF BACK UP, THATS NOT EASY. ITS A LOT OF DEMONS YOU HAVE TO FACE SOME WORSE THAN OTHERS. BUT IT HAS TO BE DONE. I MAKE IT A LITTLE EASIER FOR THE ONES THAT LISTEN TO MY MUSIC. I SORT OF SAY HEY LISTEN TO THIS AND IF THEY CATCH IT ITS GUARANTEED TO MAKE YOU BE LIKE . DID HE JUST SAY WHOOPTY WHOOP OR YAHDAH YAHDAH.. THEN THEY GO SEE FOR THEMSELVES ONCE THAT HAPPENS THEY’RE HOOKED. THATS THAT SPELL THING I WAS MENTIONING EARLIER.
What is your overall songwriting approach?
IWW) IF THE BEAT ISNT MADE FROM SCRATCH I LET THE INSTRUMENTAL TALK TO ME AND TELL ME WHAT I SHOULD SAY OR ADD TO IT. IF ITS MADE ON THE SPOT IT CAN BE A COLLECTIVE OF THINGS OR INPUT. BUT EVERYTHING HAS TO DO WITH THE ENERGY AROUND ME AT THE TIME. ALL OF MY MUSIC IS REAL. NONE OF IT IS MADE UP OR EXAGGERATED. LIKE IVE ACTUALLY DONE THESE THINGS OR WENT THROUGH THEM. I MIGHT ADD DIFFERENT TIMES TOGETHER BUT THATS IT. THE PPL WHO EXPERIENCED IT WITH ME CAN SIT BACK AND SAY YEP I REMEMBER THIS OR THAT. THEY THEN CAN ADD TO THE STORY WITH THEIR TAKE ON IT. FEMALES IVE DATED SOMETIMES HATE THE FACT THAT I DO THAT LOL. THEY NEVER KNOW IF THEY WILL BECOME A VERSE OR TWO IN ANY ONE OF MY PROJECTS. I HAVE A COUPLE FEMALES THAT TELL ME ALL THE TIME THAT THEY LOVE MY MUSIC BUT HATE TO LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE THEY DONT LIKE TO KNOW CERTAIN THINGS THAT IVE DONE OR WHO IVE BEEN WITH. ITS EVEN BEEN A TIME WHEN I WAS ON TRIAL FACING 46 YRS IN PRISON AND THE D.A TRIED TO USE MY LYRICS AGAINST ME, REAL SHIT. IN GWINNETT COUNTY GA THEY TRIED TO CONVINCE THE JURY WITH LIKE 10 OF MY SONGS . BUT BY THE BLESSINGS OF THE MOST HIGH THE JURY WASNT FEELING THE DISTRICT ATTORNEYS TACTICS.
Who are three current rappers whom you feel is lyrically at the top of their game?
THIS IS PROBABLY THE HARDEST QUESTION YOU’VE ASKED ME, LOL. THREE CURRENT RAPPERS DAMN. DO WE EVEN HAVE ANY RAPPERS LEFT LOL. NAH, IMA SAY MY PICKS WOULD HAVE TO BE NIPSEY HUSTLE, J. COLE AND ANDRE 3000. I THINK I COULD SAY A COUPLE MORE BUT THIS MY THREE . THEY COULD HOLD IT DOWN WITH NO PRESSURE.
Do you hope to bring a sense of community and change with your music to your fans?
I JUST WANT TO INSPIRE PPL RIGHT NOW. GIVE THEM MUSIC AGAIN. SOMETHING THEY CAN TURN ON AN FEEL EMPOWERED BY. IF CHANGE IS USHERED IN AND MY MUSIC IS THE THEME SONG BEHIND IT ILL DEFINITELY STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND LEAD MY PPL BUT RIGHT NOW IM JUST ENJOYING MAKING GOOD MUSIC. NO POLITICS, NO LABEL INFLUENCE & NO ILLUMINATI LOL.. JUST ME DOING WHAT I WANT AND ENJOY. I THINK THATS WHAT MY FANS LIKE TOO, IM REAL AND RAW. WHEN I SEE THEM OR THEY SEE ME OUT SOMEWHERE THATS WHAT THEY LET ME KNOW. SO THATS THE FORMULA I STICK WITH REAL & RAW. THATS WHAT A STRONG COMMUNITY IS BUILT ON. LIKE PAC SAID I MIGHT NOT BE THE ONE TO CHANGE THE WORLD BUT ILL SAY SOMETHING THAT SPARKS THE MIND OF THE PERSON OR PERSONS THAT WILL.
