Hey Holly! Welcome to BuzzMusic! Can you tell us about your upbringing? How did you get started in music?
Hey! Thank-you for the opportunity. I grew up in Toronto, was born and raised here and started singing when I was about 7 years old. I always had a passion for singing and writing as a little kid and when I had the opportunity to begin singing lessons, I did. I would put on karaoke shows in front of my family, play around and performed. I just loved being able to release my emotions through music. Writing is another way of releasing my feelings; I write a lot of poetry, and journal entries.
I started to release music in 2016 with three singles and continued to develop and build on my abilities as a songwriter. In 2017 my first EP, Holly: FIRST EDITION was released and in 2018 I released another single called 'Grow'. This year I have released my latest single 'Felt Love', which can be streamed on all musical platforms and I have my latest single ready, which is to be released within the next month. I am excited for my journey ahead and to just continue to grow within my art and develop new skills for future projects.
Can you dive into details about the lyricism in “Felt Love”? What inspired this track?
The lyricism on 'Felt Love' is my own expression of how someone else can perceive love. The lyrics takes you on a journey through intimate moments and how the effects of genuine, non judgmental love can be lost and hard to receive if you've never felt/ received it in that way, hence the lyrics '...you ain't felt love, quite like this..'. My inspiration stems a lot from personal experiences, where love can be a hard language to understand, when you're opening yourself to give love and opening yourself to receive love. I also observe relationships outside of my own and can truly witness beauty when love is understood and openly reciprocated between two people. Writing this song, I wanted listeners to feel the non judgmental love that truly exists if you allow it.
Where is the best setting to listen to your songs, and what do you hope people take away from them?
The best setting to listen to my music, I would have to say in your bedroom lying in bed just unwinding, sitting on the couch with the tv off, driving down from the cottage, or even laid back by the water while the sun sets. When listening to my music I hope people can step away from the chaos that is life, from the face we all put on everyday and feel something. I hope my lyrical content moves people and provides people with a safe space to be in tuned with their emotions, raw and all. I hope to create a connection with my listeners through them relating to my lyrical content. Every song has a motive, every song has a message and if you truly listen to the words and the energy exuded as these words are being expressed, you can appreciate the music that much more. Just take some time and truly listen.
What’s the best thing that could happen for you as an artist right now?
The best thing that could happen for me as an artist right now, would definitely be having a fan base; solidifying supporters of my music. To be able to have real people loving my work and also being a good amount of people, like thousands, would just be a blessing.
What other projects are you working on through the end of 2019?
I'll be working on 2 new projects toward the end of 2019. I have a single which I will be pushing in the next month. I will also be cooking up a new track to be released before the end of the year as well.
