Interview: Grim Talks About Their New Single "Blood", and What's Next for 2020

Welcome to BuzzMusic Grim! We loved hearing your natural musical talent your new single “Blood.” Can you tell us about the writing process for this song?

Thanks, guys! So I pretty much wrote the music to this one a while back now, spent lots of time working on it myself and then presented it the rest of the band where we all bounce ideas around and pretty much settle on a final product musically. I pretty much critiqued the lyrics until the day we actually recorded the vocals. Ian did a great job producing and at the end of the day we came out with a pretty bangin' song.

You assembled Grim frantically in order to play at Alberta’s Christmas Bangover. Can you tell us more about how you got from a jam session on a whim to releasing your own music?

For us at the start we were constantly bouncing back and forth between the studio and playing live, we were able to do so only because we were using our Bassists studio at the time to record, so we almost had the freedom to go in there at any time. We kept booking local shows and it took quite a while to finish recording and we didn't leave the area to much considering we had no record to promote. Were all set now though and excited to make our way around the rest of Western Canada!

Can you tell us about when you first found your passions for music, and how your music has evolved since then?

Our parents were always blasting either Metal or Rock & Roll when we were kids, so Ryan and me starting a band was inevitable. We could both agree on fast, loud rock & roll, so that's just what we played. We've been at it ever since and obviously the more you write, the more you play the more you improve. We're better all the time and we've got some even newer songs that people are really going too like.

We know that you like to take classic rock and roll sounds like AC/DC and The Stones adding southern influences like Pantera. Can you elaborate on how these bands (and others) have influenced your music?

Musically, taking the slamming southern groove style of bands like Maylene and mixing old school CCR and Skynyrd vibes just made sense and was something I really wanted to do. Definitely wound up with unique songs, if anything.

We were happy to have you here on BuzzMusic! Can you tell us about your goals for the future? And what we can expect to hear from you musically?

Thanks well it has been great chatting. We're already working on a new record. This one's turning out more polished and stadium sounding. But anyway thanks for your time, peace!
