Jack Nooney Talks About His Newest Single "Why Can't I Breathe"

Welcome back to BuzzMusic! We love your new track “Why Can’t I Breathe”! What inspired this song?

‘Why Can’t I Breathe’ was inspired by one studio session. I was by myself just trying to write a song that I wanted to hear. The beat was inspired by hiphop because I wanted that kind of style, but the vocals are very inspired by the Beatles with all the harmonies and high vocals that I sang. The whole song came together in about a 2-3 hour session, and was mixed and mastered that same day.

What emotions did you have to channel when curating the lyrics?

For the emotion of the entire track I wanted it to sound sad but powerful at the same time. The melody that I sang in the chorus just came to me out of nowhere and I stuck with it. I really just wanted the whole thing to sound like a cry for help, and sound very emotional. To me it is like a hiphop or r&b ballad. The drums are very hiphop, but the instrumentation is very r&b, while the lyrics are very pop or rock like.

What do you hope your listeners take away from your new EP “Songs For You”?

When listening to my new EP I want people to really hear how I was feeling at that time. The song ‘Take Me To The Stars’ was from a beat I made on instagram live and the lyrics just naturally came to me. Or when someone hears ‘Watch The Sunrise’ I want it to feel like summer, and being outside all day. Each song is like a part of my life that I imagined or lived.

It hasn’t been long since we wrote about your song “Get Back In Line”. How do you keep yourself on track to write and record so consistently?

I feel like I keep myself on track by just living my life. Songs come to me, or a melody comes to me. It is usually inspiration, then I go and record it. Or I go into the studio and try to come up with something that I really like. Most of the time the sessions are good but recently I have had a few bad ones. It is all about wanting for me. I want to make music, I want to go write a song because that is what I want to do with my life.

What’s next for you?

Right now I want to focus on releasing singles and reaching a wider audience. I want to spend time connecting with people and really try to get my name out there. I want to try to make it big. Other than that, I am working on a song for people to be featured on, and trying to be more collaborative with my work. But for right now you can stream my new EP ‘Songs For You’ everywhere.
