The most beautiful aspect of rap music and music in general, is how an artist can be able to unleash any inner anger, passion and emotions they feel into a hard delivery and musical story. Jerry Yish's new single “Legacy” does just that. The track immediately begins with a melodic smooth-sailing vocal with the compassionate supporting instrumental. Jerry Yish transitions in rapping his truth. A story so powerful that we commend him for having the confidence and bravery to share his journey with us through his authentic, honest rap.
What we interpreted from “Legacy” is that Jerry is attempting to follow behind the footsteps of his father and live up to the legacy his father left behind. The bond between a dad and a son could be the most valuable bond there is so it’s almost inevitable that Jerry would be inspired by his father actions and would want to amount up to the level he was at or even better! It’s always refreshing to listen to rappers who actually have a story to tell rather than fabricate a culture and lifestyle they normally don’t live. An authentic artist you’re bound to fall in love with him.

Hi Jerry! Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
My name is Jeremy, but I'd like to introduce myself as Jerry Yish. I was born, raised, and currently reside in Vancouver, Canada. One of the most beautiful and plentiful cities in the world! Growing up in a solid community I've always had a lot of different faces to turn to for guidance and new opportunities, whether that was in athletics, work, or social circles. I attended the Waldorf school, which is a small high school in North Vancouver that focuses heavily on the artistic and creative capabilities of its students, which really set the roots for my career in music. I grew up playing multiple sports, but baseball was my main focus from when I was just a young boy, all the way to current day Jerry, as I now coach youth baseball in my hometown.
Can you tell us a bit about how you got into rapping?
Well, I've been writing for a long time, and singing for about 2 years now. Hip hop and rapping however, is a brand new avenue for me in my musical career. My new track Legacy is actually my debut hip hop track and my verses in it are the very first bars I've written or recorded!
Tell us a bit about the meaning of your new single "Legacy"?
Legacy hits home, in a big way. I wrote Legacy with the story of my father in mind, who sadly passed away when I was eleven years old. He was the definition of the greatest dad a kid could have, and this track was a meand for me to finally reach out, in my own way, and really air out my feelings about his everlasting love, what it's like to lose a father at such a young age, and really just express how much his legacy lives on in me.
Did you face any challenges in the creation process of the song? How did you overcome it?
The only challenge I faced while writing Legacy, was that I had so much to say, and only one song to say it in. I had an amazing support team to help me through my emotions while writing it, and for those people (you know who you are), I am so very grateful.
Who is featured in the track with you?
The angel behind the voice of my chorus is Natalie Sharp. Wow. Wow is all I can say. Natalie came into my life very recently, and without her, I couldn't have expressed the legacy of my father nearly half as well as I needed to. She was a god-send for me throughout the process!
Who are a few of your musical influences that have helped shape your career in the music industry?
My influences just to name a few, as generic as they may sound, would have to be Eminem, G-Eazy, Ed Sheeran, John Mayer....the list goes on. I like to listen to the best of the best. Anything I can take away from guys like that, whether it be big or small, really helps to shape who I want to be as an Individual artist.
For someone who hasn't seen your live performance, what can they expect to see?
I have not performed so far in my career. A few opportunities have been there for me, but the right time hasn't come just yet. I plan on shows in 2019, and let me tell you, big things are coming!
What’s next for you in 2019?
2019 is going to be a big year in my career. I'm currently working on an album which I am so excited about, so between that and my decision to dedicate more time to music in the new year, 2019 is going to be a huge year for me and I am hyped to have everyone come along for the ride!
