LeFunk Releases Electronic Funk Hit "Now"
With her earliest memory of music being her father and his extensive vinyl collection, artist “LeFunk” grew up in a musically inclined household. Around 1980 when she was only just two years of age there was one specific album in her fathers collection that particularly caught her attention - "Boogie Oogie Oogie" by a "Taste of Honey" - it was the bass line. That specific album released her fascination with musical instruments and her curiosity to explore them. She will then spend the next couple of years emerging into the sounds of musical greats like Barry White, Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye. She recently released “In The House Vol. 1” where much of the artistry on this album is influenced by older legends including Prince and Andre 3000.
The song “Now” is an electro-house funk jam infused with dance music. It’s a syncopated bluesy song with a combination of various gyrated elements. It has a repetitive “Oh, Yeah, and Oh Yeah” vocal that you hear throughout the song. Cool in a sense of glue-like music that we want to leave a lasting effect on us. The synchronization shows off the artist strategic and careful planning of composing the perfect track. I appreciated the coexisting constituents presented in the single. Many dynamic moments that leaves you impressed with the combination of this song like the space-like special effect sound you hear. What’s also neat about this song is you can mentally create a setting based off the multiple instruments you hear in the song. Check out “Now” for yourself.

What's poppin' y'all, I'm LeFunk...
Can you give us a brief history of your musical career?
I didn't get into music, it got into me. I started on keys when I was 7 although drums were my first love I didn't get a set until I was an adult. Bass came along much later and became my main instrument. I wrote my first song when I was 10 and by 14 I was producing. I've done production in several recording studios across the east coast and midwest with local independent artists. In 2017, I released a 4 volume album called The Purge which featured a collection of Brand Spankin' funk tracks featuring synthesizer guru Disco Delirious. I've also performed with my band LeFunk at some of Atlanta's top live music venues such as Apache Cafe', Kat's Cafe, The Union, Gallery 992 and more.
My new album In the House, Vol. 1 is a collection of electro-house funk infused dance music. I'll be back out on the live scene with my new band and new look/sound in the near future, so stay tuned!
How did you come up with your name? Is there a meaning behind it?
'LeFunk' came about in 2010 just a year after I decided to learn to play bass...I had been going by another name for years and decided to drop it because I outgrew it...Learning to play bass was one of the best moves I made for my career, so I needed a name that was a better fit. I had started collaborating with a synth player named Disco Delirious, and I wanted a name as slick as his. I came up with 'LeFunk' - Jai LeFunk...I remember a character in a mafia movie named LeFunk and I thought it was a badd@ss name...It also translates to "I've got the Funk" in French, so there you have it!
Do you write your own music?
Yes I do.
Can you tell us a bit about your writing style?
I don't force anything...I just let it all come together however it may. I can draw inspiration from anything. Sometimes I start with drums, maybe a bassline or some kind of melody or feel...If it sounds good and feels good, I play it...
We’re really into your new song "Now"! Can you tell us a bit about it?
'Now' is a dance track and the first release from the In the House Vol. 1 EP...I made it so that DJs can run an acapella over it. I think it's one of those tracks that make you want to dance - at least that what happens when I hear it. The lazer bass line gives it this pulse that just runs through the whole track...You can really feel it when it drops!
Where did the inspiration behind the song come from?
I just wanted to make people dance...I call it 'Now' because it just puts you in the moment-the only thing that matters when you listen is dancing...That's what I want the listener to feel..
