Music’s Favorite Outlaw Shows Off His Versatility With The Smooth And Inspiring “Reach”

San Diego's Marc Oliver switches up his style to bring us this inspirational and uplifting new release.

In the ever-shifting and highly competitive landscape of music, few artists possess the audacity and ability to traverse multiple genres with effortless flair. San Diego’s music outlaw Marc Oliver is one of those artists. A versatile recording artist and singer-songwriter whose illustrious career has spanned an impressive 25 years, Oliver’s unique fusion of R&B, alternative, rock, and pop has captured the hearts of audiences worldwide, establishing him as a significant force in the industry.

Where someone as musically talented as Oliver is concerned, it is no surprise that his musical journey was set in motion from an early age. Reluctantly pushed into piano practice by his mother at the tender age of three, no one could foresee the illustrious career that would follow. Signing his first record deal fresh out of high school, Oliver embarked on a transformative journey that saw him relocate to the vibrant music hub of Los Angeles. It was there that his debut album, crafted under the expert guidance of The Matrix, catapulted him into the limelight. Coincidentally, during this period, he found himself in an esteemed company, sharing studio space with rising star Avril Lavigne, who is also working with The Matrix.

“Reach,” Oliver’s latest release, sees him (temporarily) trade his “Outlaw” ways for a softer approach. Over gentle instrumentals led by a tender and graceful guitar, Oliver drops lines like “I heard that voice inside of me, my mama’s words speakin' free / she said, reach out reach out to the stars” with a sincere cadence that makes the entire song feel instrumental. When the beat draws to a close, it feels like Oliver has guided you through a storm, and the sun is just starting to shine through the clouds.

Throughout his illustrious career, Oliver has graced stages at renowned festivals, sharing the stage with icons such as Jewel, Pat Benatar, and John Legend. His uncanny ability to blur the boundaries between alternative rock, pop, and R&B has garnered him a dedicated fanbase eager to embrace the unexpected with each release, and with “Reach,” he’s performed his magic once again. Whenever you’re ready, tap in and stream “Reach,” available now on all major streaming platforms.

Welcome to BuzzMusic, Marc Oliver, and congratulations on your latest release, "Reach." We loved "Reach;" what an uplifting new release! We had to ask, what gave you the inspiration behind this song? What was your favorite part about making it?

I was having some low points in my life at the time of writing this. As a career artist/writer/musician, I have dealt with much self-doubt. So I stood with my guitar staring at the mirror, and started writing about how things get hard, but I will battle through and believe in myself, just like my mom used to say, and the song just came out. I had to remind myself to do it, Reach out, Reach up to the stars, do it. Believe. My favorite part about making this song was working on it with Beto. Beto and I have been making music for the better part of the last ten years, and when this song came up, we molded it so beautifully that you couldn't help but smile in the studio when recording. We had such an amazing time while putting this together.

It’s been a while since we last saw you with “Outlaw!" What have you been up to, and what tunes are you bumping this summer?

“Outlaw” was a fun one. Since then, I have released two other songs, “Woman” and “Castaway” They are doing great. I love those songs. All of those I recorded over a year ago and just wanted to get them out before I start this next run. All I have been bumping right now are the 20 other songs I am finishing to release, haha. But I’ll get down with everything from One Republic to Eazy-E, Beach Boys to green day this summer. There is always something for every occasion.

You’re a huge veteran in the industry, and you’ve had an amazing career. Do you have any advice you’d like to give anyone who might be trying to follow in your footsteps?

Thank you. My advice would be… Lead with your heart. Be yourself before anything. People might judge, but no one cares. Everyone is just worried about themselves. Be you and give that to the world with love. Write, play, record, release. Over and over and over again. Practice every day, practice, and play your songs every day. Play live for people all the time. Film everything, post everything. If you do all of that, success will find you.

What do you want fans to feel when they listen to your music?

I would love for everyone to feel how I feel when I play my songs. Alive. Music gives us such an amazing touch on our own lives and emotions. Listening, dancing, and singing along should make you feel free. Free to be Alive. I hope that everyone finds fun while hearing my music.

What’s next for Marc Oliver? Do you have any new music coming soon, and is there anything you want to say to your fans?

Yes, lots of music. I will release a new single EVERY MONTH for the next two years. The next one comes out on July 7th. “SURF SONG” is a fun summer song that will get you dancing. Thank you for all your support. I can’t wait to see everyone dancing and having a good time at the live shows. Come say hi, and enjoy all the music that is coming out.
