Welcome to BuzzMusic, Niah Faye. We adored the smooth and sensual sound of your atmospheric hit, "Entertainer" What inspired this passionate and sultry song?
Despite me only being 20 years old, a lot of my youth up until now has been spent being obsessed with the concept of love and finding someone to experience it with. I heavily romanticized relationships as a kid, thinking love was supposed to play out as I'd seen in the movies, and the thought of having a life-long partner always brought me comfort. However, because I was chasing love - as opposed to just letting it find me - I found myself becoming desperate to hold onto people and ending up in unhealthy situations. I was often giving more than I was receiving, and I began to feel like a source of entertainment. After feeling like that one too many times, I'd decided enough was enough. I transformed those helpless feelings into empowering ones through song; it's been the most liberating and healing experience!
Did you have any artistic influences or projects in mind when creating the single “Entertainer?"
I didn't have any particular influence in mind when making this song. Still, generally speaking, Summer Walker, Jhene Aiko, and Daniel Caesar are big contributors to the sound I have today. They are the queens and kings of smooth and sultry vocals in this generation, and I love their works!
What was the hardest part about creating such an honest piece like "Entertainer?" Did you face any personal or physical challenges?
The hardest part about writing vulnerable music is the possibility of reliving the experiences I may not be fully over and healed from. "Entertainer" was speaking on a collection of experiences that I had overcome by the time I started writing, so it was empowering to create a banger out of it all, knowing I had felt so low and weak when I was living through it.
What's the message you'd like people to take away from this song?
I like to remind myself, whenever someone hurts me or disappoints me, that there are 7 billion people in this world. If someone chooses to lie to me, there are thousands of others who would be honest with me. If someone takes me for granted, I know there are thousands of people who would appreciate me. You get the trend. The point is, I can't allow myself to be devastated when someone does me wrong because there are people out there who will do right by me, the most important person being myself. There is never an excuse to entertain someone; our time is too short and too precious to be played with. Think of all of the amazing things you could be doing if you weren't bothered with someone else's toxic b.s.!
What's next for you?
"Entertainer " was followed up with a remix featuring fellow upcoming artist Luka Wyatt. You can listen to the original and the remix on streaming platforms and YouTube.
