New York City’s own self-proclaimed ‘rhythmic disciple,' HOLDN, has made quite the arrival upon her first step into pop music with her debut single, ‘BURN’. Hailing from the alt-rock world, HOLDN brings a full plate of emotion and honesty with a sharp-toothed side of unapologetic wit to the pop table. With a dark and edgy exterior, HOLDN graciously lures you in with her mysterious aesthetic and soulful, yet haunting, melodies. The release of her newest single “Fine” is an example of representation for that mystic vibe she’s most known for. The cultivating melody charms you in with the hit beat that supports the single well and plays its role as the perfect base. I like the beginning introduction of “Fine” with the computerized vocals and electrical establishment. I liked how witty the lyrics were as well, it showed me that HOLDN knows how to fool around with good wordplay, making her a more well-rounded and standout artist in my opinion. She even showcased her poetic lyricism around the 2:25 time frame in the song where she delivers a subtle rap flow for about 10 seconds. HOLDN has all the ingredients that makes someone a star, now the only question we have is would she be able to consistently deliver hit records like this one?

How has it been growing up in New York City? Do you think your environment and background influenced your music in any way?
I lived in Jersey for most of my life, but I like to say I slept in Jersey and actually did all of my “living” in New York. Living here in nyc has been a long time coming and has always been a goal of mine. This city changed my life and made my skin as thick as the leather on my jacket (and believe me, that’s the good shit. I’m Italian. I was basically born in a leather jacket). Considering the culture of the city and it’s impact on me personally, I’d say it had a huge influence on my music stylistically and emotionally since everything I write is always very personal. I actually have the Manhattan skyline tattooed on the inside of my bottom lip because the city taught me that I always have to be quick with a sharp tongue.
How would you personally describe your music style?
Dark-pop.
What was the inspiration behind the song “Fine” ?
I find myself alone when I need people the most. I’m never one to reach out for help because I’m extremely independent and prideful. It’s my achievement and my demise. There’s a ton of text threads I saw on my phone one day and they all come to a dead end when I say “it’s fine” or “I’m fine” when I’m honestly not fine at all. People accept the word “fine” as a good enough excuse to get away with doing you wrong by not being there when you need them to be there the most. So I rely on myself. I can count on one hand (or less) the amount of people that I trust. And from that concept, “Fine” was born.
How and/or where do you find inspirations for most of your songs?
Rock bottom, over the moon, in the rain, in the park, on the subway, everywhere and anywhere.
What else can we expect out of HOLDN through 2019?
New music, tons of shows. All of that fun stuff that I love doing.
