Who will bridge the love divide first?
With his soulful melodies weaving their way into the hearts of audiences wherever he goes, Paul Bailey's discography has long possessed some of the most enchanting underground releases in the scene.
Influenced by the soul-stirring sounds of Motown and the magic of Muscle Shoals, Bailey found his muse in icons like Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson, which helped shape his identity as a singer, songwriter, and performer. As his star rises, Bailey continues to capture the hearts of listeners, one heartfelt release after another.
Bailey’s musical journey began at a young age in grade school; his innate musical talent was nurtured by the discerning ears of his music teacher and principal. With no other formal training, Bailey honed his craft by immersing himself in the melodies of his idols, from the velvety croons of Luther Vandross to the electrifying energy of James Brown.
His talent soon found a platform when a chance encounter at a Montreal nightclub led to his song “Part-time Lover” being sampled by none other than the legendary Rick James for the movie soundtrack of “Colors.”
Bailey’s latest release, “Catching Feelings,” is the perfect balancing act. Channeling the legendary golden age of soul that inspired Bailey’s musical identity and a more contemporary vocal flair, lyrics like “I don’t know how you feel, but I'm catching feelings / Cause what you’ve said to me makes it so real” are delivered with an ethereal distortion on the vocals reminiscent of modern greats like Thundercat.
Bailey’s enchanting vocal performance sweeps listeners into his vast, alluring soundscape, and with the accompanying instrumental complimenting his singing perfectly, “Catching Feelings” makes for a truly breathtaking release.
With his soulful melodies continuing to find their way into listeners' hearts one by one, Paul Bailey’s artistic future continues to be bright.
Welcome to Buzz, Paul Bailey! We loved “Catching Feelings,” we had to ask! What was the inspiration behind this release? Were you drawing from personal experiences?
Yes, I was acquainted with someone I met years ago. It didn't go anywhere, but on our second meet-up years later, sparks flew, and that's where the song begins.
What’s your favorite part of the creative process, and what did you enjoy most about bringing your vision for “Catching Feelings” to life?
My favorite part of the creative process was doing the vocals in one take from top to bottom. There was a live feel to it. I went for it, and this is how it turned out. I enjoyed that the most about bringing my vision to life.
What goals do you want to achieve through your music?
The goals I want to achieve through my music are to make it go viral, license my music to high-profile synch TV programs, Films, and commercials, write a top-ten hit, and eventually create my own brand line of sneakers or cologne.
If your listeners could take one thing away from your music, what would you want that to be and why?
I am a serious songwriter with strong material. If the listeners have been following me for a minute, they will hear that, plus they, the fans, have told me many times that the songs are great!
What’s next for Paul Bailey, and is there anything you’d like to say to your fans?
What's next for me is to continue exploring my catalog for re-edits and/or remixes of material that did not get the right marketing/promotions on the first release. That is what I am feeling right now.
