DMV native JAYE WOOD is the newest R&B sensation that you didn’t know your playlist was missing! He’s no stranger to the limelight either, as his journey started out in acting when he was just a child. JAYE WOOD’s most acclaimed roles were Young Simba in Disney's theatrical play, "The Lion King" which premiered on Broadway, Young Wesley in Preaching to The Choir and his appearance on The Dave Chappelle Show. This singer songwriter gets his musical influence from the 90s R&B era and it's very clear as soon as you hear his smooth vocals. From his incredible falsetto to his rhythmic runs JAYE WOOD provides what R&B has been missing. JAYE WOOD’s appropriately titled debut album, Child Star drops winter 2018. His single entitled “Love In Mind” starts off with his sensational riffs and runs that immediately makes you fall in love with his voice! His suave, soulful, smooth-sailing classic R&B voice will become irresistible for you! The hip beat is a nice supporting back track instrumental for this snazzy hit single! He reminds me of the iconic R&B stars like #Usher and #ChrisBrown which is what this current era of music is missing!

How has it been growing up in the DMV area?
Growing up in the DMV is one of the best experiences I’ve had. There is so much diversity here and the east coast access is just plain easy! I’ve drove from Maryland to Miami (on several occasions). Not to mention our crazy weather! I’ll never forget the one time my cousins came up from San Antonio and saw snow for the first time! Meanwhile I was wishing it didn’t snow at all! It just helps me realize that we have to appreciate the smallest of things.
How was acting? Was it difficult or natural to you?
Acting was amazing! Thanks to my Dad and all his patience, time and money LOL he got me several agents and when eventually ended up working with one (Frontier Booking International). From there I was fortunate and blessed enough to get casted for several big time roles. I played Young Simba in Disney’s The Lion King on Broadway, I played along side some major stars in Preaching to The Choir, I played a character in Dave Chappelle’s “Chappelle Show”, and even did some Indy Films including Dee Ree’s NYU Grad film. Was it natural? I’d say for the most part yes. But to be that confident I worked for it. Growing up in the Taylor household was fun, but we always had something going on that sharpened these skills without my knowledge! My older sister Jennie and I were very active in sports and extracurricular activities, therefore, we were our parents entertainment. I remember this one Friday night we wrote a script and pretended we were news castors and reported the news, good times!! One thing I will always remember that I’ve even repeated to my varsity wrestling team when I coached is: "Practice doesn’t make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect. If you practice wrong, you perform wrong. If you practice perfectly, your outcome will be perfect.” - My MOM (ANGEL TAYLOR)
Do you prefer Acting or Music? Please explain why for us.
Interesting question … I’m an entertainer! I love singing but I also won’t mind jumping back in the acting scene either. *cough cough* Lee Daniels Empire on Fox … Holla at meeee!!!
R&B Music isn’t as appreciated now as it was before, do you hope to bring that love for the popular genre back?
That is the motivation! The thought that R&B Music is dead to the world hurts man. I love me some good ole 90s R&B. My mission is to fill the void you all have been waiting for! TANK - Let’s link up big bro!
Who are some of your musical influences and why?
My musical influences… If I didn’t start by saying Michael Jackson then I should probably just stop now. HAHAHA...Man if it wasn’t for him 90’s and 2000’s R&B wouldn’t be a thing! He brought more than music to his songs, the emotion he embodied empowered us all to feel his music! That’s what I aspire to bring to people. I don’t want you to just hear my songs, I wrote and sang it so you can feel it!
If you can collaborate with any R&B artist from the past or present who would you choose and why?
How long can this list be? No...but really if I had the gracious opportunity to collaborate with any artist it would be … ok I’m going to have to name a few…#Tank, Ne-yo, Ginuwine, Usher, Tyrese, Maxwell, Chris Brown, Trey Songz, Joe, Keiynan Lonsdale, DJ Khaled, The Weeknd, Drake, Nao, Brandy, Beyoncé, Mya, Khalid, Timberland, Justin Timberlake, Xavier Ömar, Adele, Alicia Keys…. SO many more the list goes on!!! There is no way to pick ONE!
How is it performing? What’s your favorite quality about it?
Performing is a rush! I love it because I get the opportunity to share with the world a part of me. As artists we work tirelessly to perfect our sound, our stage presence, and just the overall show experience in general. When we get that chance to express ourselves and let it out, it’s an indescribable feeling! I’m so very thankful that my stars are aligning and presenting these opportunities to me. I’m going to take this baton and run for as long as I can! Thank you for your time much appreciated!
