Caesar Gorgeous has had quite the year, kicking things off he began releasing singles to gain traction for his debut album, “Perception”. This album is 14-tracks of original songs from talented, up and coming artist Caesar Gorgeous. Following the release of “Perception,” Caesar was named a semi-finalist for the 2019 International Songwriting Competition and a finalist in the John Lennon Songwriting Competition. The album amassed Caesar an incredible amount of success and was soon followed up by “Breathe” to kick off summer 2019! The track dives into the heavy subject matter of feeling suffocated by the fake love that surrounds you sometimes, the main message was to keep moving forward regardless.

Welcome back to BuzzMusic Caesar Gorgeous! It’s such a pleasure to be catching up with you! You’ve had an impressive year, to say the least. What accomplishment are you most proud of thus far?
Honestly, I'm proud of placing 3rd in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest. I've never won anything for my music before. To have 'Overdue' win an award was an amazing feeling. I know it's not just me thinking my pen game is nice anymore, I feel I'm validated.
One of our favorite tracks on “Perception” is “Four Walls”! Can you tell us the inspiration behind this track?
'Four Walls' is about my battle with depression and alcoholism. I wrote it depicting the day I broke down emotionally and decided to stop using alcohol as a distraction. I had spent 3 days in my apartment by myself drinking Bacardi feeling down as hell. When I got a wave of depression then, I wouldn't answer the phone or I would lie to people because I didn't feel like interacting. Four Walls is my truth. I told myself I want to live right and not use alcohol to try and distract me from my depression, especially when alcohol would make me feel worse in the end.
With your individual sound now established, how do you set yourself apart from other hip-hop artists today?
I'm honest. My mom used to say, "you can only rap about what you know," I took that to heart. I just give my unique perspective with some witty double entendres. No gimmicks or glitz. No one can have my exact perspective or ear. As long as I'm true to myself, I'm in a lane alone.
You seem to be an artist that puts more thought into their lyrics than most. What can you tell us about the lyrical depth within “Youth”?
Youth is a reflection of me growing up without a dad and being a driven kid. I've wanted to rap and make music since 16, I had to work on my rhymes and had no help with that aspect of my music. I had to work hard and constantly put work into my craft over the years. I've had rough patches in my life and no one to guide me, so I figured things out alone. Youth is an abridged and digestible version of my story.
You’ve mentioned that you have hopes to release a music video soon! Can we have any hints to which track you’d match the visuals too? Or will it be a new release?
A music video for Four Walls will come soon! But I have other work to release before y'all get that.
Thank you so much for talking with us about your new projects and the creative process. What can you tell us about your upcoming EP? We can’t wait to hear more from you.
My upcoming EP entitled, 'QR EP' is coming sooner than later. It's an EP for Chicago, made in Chicago, with Chicago artists. Really excited to share the EP and bring more artists into my world. QR is produced entirely by J.Khaga and features a few homies, including Shellz, who was on 'Breathe' with me.
