On November 15th, indie pop singer, songwriter and producer, Sania, released her first single titled “Own Way” . A life’s lesson that has a ring to it we are sure to remember! Singing about her hardships and metaphorically using it as a way to express the love she has for her music. “Own Way” can play as a relatable tune where we can place ourselves in the same shoes Sania walks in. Although from Sania’s artist perception, she sings about her troubling challenges she has faced in the music industry, the message is still abundantly clear and can be digested in various different meanings. “When you’re stuck in a bad situation, stand up, believe in yourself and have the courage to change it for the better!” but what was neat about this single is that although Sania has addressed the direction of the song, there’s many ways we can listen to it. How? All we have to do is find that one challenging aspect in our life that’s possibly holding us back rather it’s a significant other, work related or any internal demons or addictions we have and realize that certain aspects of life need to be released from our life in order for us to prosper the correct way. That’s what I love most about the single is the multi-faceted message behind it and made up with its catchy hook and trendy style.

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
I am Sania, an indie pop singer, songwriter and producer from Belgium.
Can you give us a brief history of your musical career?
I think I always was surrounded by music from when I was a baby. When I was a
child I remember my parents frequently put on records of The Beatles. Also my
father, who is a musician and songwriter too, played gigs where he covered many
Beatles songs. As a die hard fan of him, I always went with him when he went to
play a gig. I didn’t really started to write songs until I became a big fan of pop-punk rock
bands like, Blink 182 and The Offspring. I started to play the guitar and started writing
pop-punk tunes in class. Later on I recorded my first songs and ideas. To make my demo tracks, I recorded some drums and bass guitar as well, but the drums were really awful!
I went on from there to producing and making pop songs on my laptop, which I think
is one of my favorite things to do in life.
How did you come up with your name? Is there a meaning behind it?
Actually I just came across the name ‘Sania’ somewhere and I thought it was a nice
name for me to use as a moniker. Later I googled the meaning of the name and it
said something like ‘Sania stands for a girl that speaks her mind and stands up for
her friends’ When I read that I was just like ‘Okay, that’s a positive thing to live by'!
Do you write your own music? Can you tell us a bit about your writing style?
The initial thing of songwriting, for me, is putting my emotions into perspective, so I
can, when I read my own lyrics, figure out what’s the real issue that has been
bothering me for months. Sometimes when I feel down and I’m writing a song, after
reading a few lines from the lyrics I go like ‘aaah, so that’s been bothering me so
much these days!’ It’s like a little ‘Eurika’ moment for me sometimes. When I perform on stage it’s kind of a liberation and relief to shout and sing out loud about the problems I am facing, rather than to keep them all inside. If the audience then reacts to the lyrics like they can relate to them, it gives me a bit of a ‘we are all this together’ kind of feeling, it’s kind of like a group therapy session I think!
We’re really into your new song "Own Way"! Can you tell us a bit about it?
‘Own Way’ is about having the confidence and courage to break free from a situation
that you feel you are stuck in, and to change it for the better. If you just believe in
yourself there’s so much you can do.
Where did the inspiration behind "Own Way" come from?
Like a lot of kids out there I‘ve been struggling with low self esteem issues since I was a
teenager. I really wanted to release my music sooner but I was signed with a music
company that shelved my album and constantly made me feel like I was doing
Now I finally had the courage to release my own music and present myself to the
world as who I am, not as who I was supposed to be, determined by other people.
I’m so glad I finally embraced myself as I am, the music I like to make and the way I
like to perform.
What are three things you’d love your fans to know about you?
-Besides working on my music and performing I also like to paint and write poetry.
-I have the cutest pet bunny, that is a bit of a selfish jerk sometimes, but I love him to
-I try to be an out of the box thinker as much as possible and I want to encourage
people to first think for themselves before following the hurde.
Any upcoming shows? For someone who hasn’t seen you live yet, how would you describe your performance?
Live I perform together with my DJ and drummer. For now I’m really focused on
writing more new music, but new shows are coming up around the month of May
What’s next for Sania in 2019?
There are new releases coming up in 2019, which I am very excited about! Of
course there will be live shows planned!
