Care to introduce yourself to our readers? Can you give us a brief history of your musical career?
My name is Satyr, I’m a producer, singer, song-writer, pianist, and dancer. From the age of 9 years old my parents put me in classical piano lessons but in my head I really wanted to pursue pop music and acting, I’m basically a huge cliché. Using my knowledge from years of music theory I learned in piano lessons I started producing music in high school and it was purely only for fun because at the time I wrote really dumb comedy songs. Later on I took producing and song-writing more seriously when I began college and from there I started to find my sound and my identity as a musician.
How did you come up with your name? Is there a meaning behind it?
My astrological sign is Capricorn (Sea Goat) and I found it fitting that Satyr be my artist name. Satyrs are a goat and human hybrid from Greek mythology that have been known to enchant other creatures with their music and dancing. When I perform I love incorporating choreography to my music and I like to sing mesmerizing melodies with my songs, I make it hard for people to look away or they will probably miss something.
Do you write your own music? Can you tell us a bit about your writing style?
I write and produce all of my music with no help from others, I’m still getting used to saying that and taking pride in it because I don’t want to seem pretentious. When writing music sometimes inspiration comes out of nowhere and I immediately record it in the voice memos on my iPhone or I would type it into my phone. With writing, I try to think of it as poetry and imagery. I won’t write metaphors, similes, and figurative language for no reason. Every lyric needs to have purpose and intention, so if a stanza is going to be simple there is a reason behind it, same applies if I write using metaphors and personification. At the same time I try to stay away from being to literal in my song-writing, I prefer to keep things interesting and mysterious at times to have my audience interpret my music in their own perspective.
We’re really into your new song "Give You Something New"! Can you tell us a bit about it? Where did the inspiration behind the song come from?
Thank you, I was super nervous about putting this song out because I had never put out a song this pop and commercial before. The inspiration behind this song were bi-sexual individuals. I don’t identify as bi but I am very open to meeting all types of people. In the song you can hear that I use pronouns like “he, him, her, she” interchangeably because of the way I feel about both guys and girls. I was inspired by the club scene and my fantasy of dancing with girls and guys in the same night. I thought this would be an interesting first single to put out from my second upcoming album coming in 2019 because it just shows a fun and playful side of me, like how Satyrs were portrayed in Greek Mythology. As you can see I’m trying to be consistent with my brand.
I have a lot of music coming out. I’m not one of those artists that post videos/pictures of themselves in the studio but take 8-9 months to put a song out, I like to be consistent with my content and plan it out thoroughly. I plan to release singles every 2-3 months and perform more gigs if I get the opportunities because performing is where I really excel. Currently I am producing music for queer artists and I plan to collaborate with videographers to make some cool visuals and music videos. Also I’m thinking about doing a Christmas song for the holidays so we’ll see how that goes. My sophomore album is going to be coming out in 2019 and that album is going to be full of pop, trap, R&B, and a couple of ballad. I have a whole folder stocked up with bops so 2019 is about to be popping. What’s next for you?
