Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
What’s up? My name is Kaitlyn Williams!
Can you give us a brief history of your musical career?
I started playing piano when I was 7 and then decided I loved to sing at around that age as well! I was 12 when I wrote my first song and just haven’t stopped. In high school I sang in choir and played the Clarinet and began taking classical voice lessons. I then went on to study Opera in college, and ended up changing my major and graduating with a Jazz degree in Voice.
Do you write your own music? Can you tell us a bit about your writing style?
I write all my own music and lyrics. I’d say my style is a mix between pop, r&b, and jazz with a little Sara Bareilles and Stevie Wonder influence.
We love your new song Rain! Can you tell us a bit about it?
Rain is a song I wrote when I was spending a summer out in LA. I was dating this guy who had come to visit me in Colorado where I’m from and all he wanted to do was go see the football stadium and drink at bars and I suddenly woke up like “I don’t have anything in common with this person. All I want to do is run away to nature.” And that’s where “Rain" came from. “Take me where the trees are GREEN!” Kind of like, take me away from this unfulfilling relationship.
Where did the inspiration behind the song come from?
I got a text message from my best friend that literally said “You know….love is blind,” and I literally ran to the piano and wrote this song.
What are three things you’d love your fans to know about you?
1.) I love to laugh and/or make people laugh.
2.) I’m a pretty positive and hopeful person despite the amount of sad songs I write.
3.) The color orange is rad to me… because it’s in sunsets and I love sunsets.
Any upcoming shows? For someone who hasn’t seen you live yet, how would you describe your performance?
I have a solo show in Denver at BarFly on Nov. 24th! I’ll have my keyboard, my guitars, my vocal cords, and hopefully some dad jokes too!
What’s next for you?
I’m releasing two more singles (One in November and another in December) and then my debut record called “Sunset" comes out in January! After that I’ll start preparing songs to get ready for my sophomore album!
