Sip From Madi K’s 'Homemade Remedy,' In Her Recent EP

Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, singer-songwriter and pop princess/recording artist Madi K serves up a Homemade Remedy in her new 5-track EP.

The 22-year-old singer-songwriter was a natural-born vocalist, diving into pop/contemporary and musical theater at the mere age of 9. Influences like Katy Perry, Beyoncé, and Ariana Grande have landed Madi K on The Voice Australia for two back-to-back seasons, returning as an ALLSTAR in 2019 under the mentorship of Boy George.

Back and better than ever, the Melbourne-based pop princess is taking listeners on a wild and dynamic ride with the release of her newest EP, Homemade Remedy.

The new project opens with the introductory track, "Let You Go," pouring through the speakers with pulsating pop synths, driving drums, and Madi K's bright vocal melodies. She uses her pent-up emotions and angst to bring listeners straight into her relationship experiences while wishing someone well as she finally let's go. It's an exhilarating electro-pop song with a stellar bass-heavy beat drop that's sure to get you moving and grooving.

Moving into track number two, "I Don't Miss You," Madi K brings us into a more personal and intimate situation alongside lush acoustic guitar melodies and soft pop drums. Listening to Madi K's cathartic lyrics, she expands on pulling herself out from the mud and leaving someone in the past, but she can't help but linger into those precious past memories. It's a deeply confessional and chilling song that brings listeners through relatable and familiar situations we all face from time to time.

Reaching the EP's steamy third track and halfway point, "Hush," Madi K throws us into a sensual pop atmosphere with plucky synths, spacey drums, and her vibrant, breathy vocals. As she touches on wanting to take someone's breath away and take them home, the song's toe-tapping beat drops with strut-worthy synths and heavy drums that feel like a sonic fashion show. This song was the sexual and punchy halfway pick-me-up we needed.

Getting back to "Reality" on track number four, the song blesses our speakers with a rich and groovy pop beat that's soaked in hip-hop drums and rumbling snares. Madi K delivers impressive similarities to the sound, style, and attitude of Ariana Grande, especially as she belts her vibrant vocals that discuss how she's gonna do what she wants to do, no matter what the haters say. It's quite the sweet-sounding song that perfectly showcases Madi K's impressive talent and performance abilities.

Landing on the EP's fifth and outro track, "Past Life," Madi K takes us through the most emotional song on the project. She discusses memories, the end of certain connections, and going separate ways with someone special. It's an incredibly cathartic song that sees Madi K unleashing her deepest thoughts while traveling through the memories she made in a "Past Life." This was quite a way to close the project, helping listeners get to know Madi K and the relatable struggles she gracefully shares with all of us.

It doesn't get much better than the infectious sound, profound passion, and lyrical mastery of Madi K's new EP. Find the 5-track project, Homemade Remedy, on all digital streaming platforms.

Welcome to BuzzMusic, Madi K. We're so impressed with the dynamic range of emotions and vibes you've poured into your new EP, Homemade Remedy. What inspired you to create this project?

Thank you so much! It has been one of my goals for a long time to put out a body of work that demonstrates the full range of what I am capable of as both a songwriter and a vocalist. After experiencing the devastating break up of my long-term relationship, the subsequent heartbreak I felt became my muse and something I worked through by writing these songs. I felt powerless and hopeless, and I wanted to turn that around and regain my power. Each track on this EP draws inspiration from some of my favorite artists, Katy Perry, Ariana Grande, and Beyonce, just to name a few. Ultimately, I was driven by my passion for storytelling, and I felt that this was the perfect way to simultaneously process my feelings, heal my heart, explore my artistry further, and tell my story.

How long did it take to create the new EP, Homemade Remedy? When did you start thinking of ideas for this project?

In total, the process of creating this EP took approximately a year and a half. This EP actually began as my final university project that was not meant to be released. However, after I finished my degree and went through my heartbreak, I found new inspiration, and I spent the remainder of the endless Melbourne lockdowns making demos in my bedroom. When I finally got out of lockdown, I took the opportunity to turn the demo’s into finalized tracks, all of which became this EP.

Which song from Homemade Remedy are you most proud of and why? Why is that song so special to you?

Although I am immensely proud of all 5 songs, and it’s like picking a favorite child, the song I am most proud of from Homemade Remedy is the final track, ‘Past Life.' ‘Past Life’ is a melancholy ballad that discusses the feeling of reminiscing on a memory that is so distant and disconnected from who you are now that it feels like it’s from another lifetime. Every lyric in this song is real, raw, and honest. It’s the most honest and vulnerable song I’ve ever written. It was the final track written for this EP and the perfect way to end it. It captures my heart, and everyone who has ever listened to it can feel my heart in it. It usually brings people to tears. I’m so proud of how people connect with it, and I think that’s what makes it so special to me.

Did you work with any songwriters, producers, or engineers to help create the EP, Homemade Remedy? Who helped you make this dynamic project?

I had the honor of working with 4 insanely talented creatives throughout the process of creating this EP. My two wonderful producers, Dominik Dale and Liam Quinn, my co-songwriter Sammi Constantine, and my wizard instrumentalist Travis Loughhead. Liam Quinn is the producer and engineer of both ‘Let You Go' and ‘I Don’t Miss You, and the incredible Sammi Constantine assisted in co-writing these tracks! As for fan favorite ‘Hush’, this was produced, engineered, and co-written by Dominik Dale over Zoom, which is mind-blowing! Also created over Zoom, ‘Past Life’ has angelic keys composed by Travis Loughhead and produced by Dominik Dale. Finally, ‘Reality’ was produced almost entirely by me. However, I had some help from Dom to polish it up! A small but mighty team that I love dearly!

Was there a certain message, theme, or concept that you wanted listeners to pick up on and take away from Homemade Remedy?

The overall theme that this EP embodies is the stages of grief and heartbreak. It has something for each stage and each part of the healing process. I want listeners to hear their own thoughts, feelings, and emotions in these songs. I also want them to hear me and hear what I have to say. I want people to listen to this EP from start to finish and, by the end, know exactly who MADI K is (for now).
