Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

I’m INA from Sweden currently living my best life in Los Angeles enjoying every opportunity doing what I love; music.

Can you give us a brief history of your musical career?

It’s like a roller coaster. I started singing wanting to be a musical theatre artist which by the way never happened. Never been in one but ironically I wrote one and directed one back in Sweden. My first stop was London which was where I discovered my passion for writing and composing music. I had been writing my whole life but that’s where it all sort of clicked. Next stop was LA and I signed a record deal.. fast forward a few years later I decided to go independent because and don’t get me wrong I am so grateful for all the amazing things I got to experience and what was offered but down the line it wasn’t me. I needed to go and be me. Write freely and I felt I had become a robot. Things are different now. I’m really happy with where things are going and looking forward to a new record deal with the real me.

How did you come up with your name? Is there a meaning behind it?

My first artist name was KINGQUEEN which later became the name of my band but when things fell out of place I felt like the name had become tainted and I decided to perform under my birth name Sabrina Petrini. After a while I felt like I needed distance from my name. Like I missed having a stage name and also it was a bit annoying to always correct the spelling or the pronunciation of my name. I didn’t want to come up with something that was fiction and I didn’t want to go back to my old stage name so my photographer actually suggested INA because it was part of my name and I could still have distance. I liked the sound of it and decided to give it a go.

Do you write your own music? Can you tell us a bit about your writing style?

It’s so different for each of my songs but usually I’m driving and a melody with a sentence comes out of my mouth out of nowhere and I record it on my “voice memos” on my phone and then keep singing and adding to it. Later on when I get home I start playing chords to it on the piano and boom there’s a song.

We’re really into your new song Overthinking! Can you tell us a bit about it?

That song was my first song writing without my walls up. A friend of mine had watched my performance at The Viper Room back in 2016 and he had said something like “you are a great performer but I still don’t know you”.. it kicked my butt! What he meant was my lyrics weren’t there. They weren’t bad but they didn’t hit anyone either. I am a good performer and I’ve always kind of had that going and able to be a badass and say what I wanted but just enough not to be too vulnerable!! My grandma passed away not long after and it was my biggest loss in my life. I still feel empty. And at first I wanted to never do music again. I felt let down by the universe. My pain and that void was just in the way of seeing the light. But I started writing because naturally it’s what I do. And that was the first song I wrote with a new set of energy of having nothing to loose and then my grandmas voice in the back of my head telling me life has to go on. I can’t honor her life by doing nothing with my own. And I made a decision; no more walls. And that’s what “Overthinking” is. Realizing who I am and letting it all out.

What are three things you’d love your fans to know about you?
  • Giving up is not an option.

  • Without you I’m nothing.

  • I don’t see competition only great inspiration.

Any upcoming shows? For someone who hasn’t seen you live yet, how would you describe your performance?

My next show is at Whisky a go go on Dec 10 and we’re playing with Royal Distortion. My live show consists of an amazing live band and backup dancers and occasionally guest artists. It’s a pop rock kind of night with a grove and dancing!!

What’s next for INA?

Currently re recording my top 3 songs I released from my Ep “Overthinking”. Upgrading the sound. I had no budget with the EP I released earlier this year and had no idea where it was going. I’m humbled and overwhelmed with how much positive attention it got; especially at the live shows. So now I want to give my online fans the same vibe and feeling as the live show. They deserve a proper recording of these tracks and I am so lucky I can finally give it to them.
