Looking for a new band to knock you off your feet and throw you back into a generation you wished you grew up in? The Flavians, an alternative pop band based in Berlin are a total 60's influenced band... the only catch, they were created in 2017! The members of the group include Joakim Jägerhult (drums), Liam Blomquist (guitar/vocals), Anna Vaverková (keys/vocals) and Thomas Wills (bass/vocals) Inspired by the music culture of Berlin by artists such as The Beatles, The Beach Boys, and Todd Rundgren to name a few, The Flavians produce a unique sound of beautiful harmonies that present us with messages of everyday struggles.
“On The Radio” is a a 3-minute story of a schizophrenic who calls into a drivetime radio show while speeding through a red light. The song was recorded live using vintage gear from the 60's and 70's which gives us an authentic throwback vibe. Its beautiful production is something that you just don’t hear in current music often. The vocals are so gritty and raw contrasting with the soft harmonies of “oos”. This is the first single release off of their album “Ordinary People In An Ordinary World” which is a concept that the band come up with because they wanted to focus on the ordinary with the sometime surreal. Themes of alienation, mental illness to even just bad dancing. It's a refreshing song to hear and gives you a true taste of what raw organic music sounds like. It's not every day that you'll here a song like this so take advantage of it and get lost in it. You can add the "On The Radio" by The Flavians on Spotify here.

Care to introduce yourselves to our readers?
I guess we are quite ordinary people, but we found out through time that we have a lot in common in terms of musical taste and lifestyle. we’re sort of all white priviledged blond haired guys (except Anna, shes actually a girl..) and we tend to not take life too serious.
How long have you all known each other? How did you meet?
As stories about how bands formed go, ours is pretty unremarkable and somewhat mundane. We all met at different points around Berlin in the autumn of 2016 and decided after 1 year of studying, drinking and after much deliberation, that we would officially label ourself as a band.
How has your music evolved since you first began playing music together a band?
In the beginning I had some songs that I brought to the rehearsal room and everyone added some personal flavour, but since we have three songwriters in the band it felt wiser if everyone contributed so we started to write together more frequently. Now we’re collaborating on each others ideas on a regular basis. We want to be the kind of group that sounds like a band instead of musicians accompanying a songwriter.
Can you tell us a bit about your new song "On The Radio" and the writing process behind it?
I just brought forward a little melodic hook while rehearsing and Joakim added the steady four to the floor beat and it just took off from there. A true jam-created composition.
Where did the inspiration behind this song come from?
The story developed quite organically while discussing schizophrenia under the influence of perhaps one or two beers too many. We have our idea of the lyrics actual meaning and we invite listeners to create theirs.
Do you prefer the digital or more traditional way (cd, lp etc) of getting your music to your fans, why?
Digital platforms make it easier to get your music out there, which I suppose is a good thing. But there’s definitely something special about holding a physical product or putting on a crackling vinyl record.
Any upcoming shows in the near future? For a new fan who hasn’t seen you live yet, how would you describe your live performance?
We have quite a lot of shows coming up this autumn actually, mostly in Berlin but also in Prague and other cities. If you want to have fun, or at least see us having fun and being silly on stage you’re welcome. The dates can be found on our website or on one of the many social media platforms we’re on.
What’s next for the band?
We’re going to release our second single sometime in October, simultaneously we’re recording our debut album called 'Ordinary People In an Ordinary World'. The plan is to release it before summer 2019 and then go out on a tour so you all have the opportunity to hear it live. Connect with The Flavians on social media:
