Welcome to Buzz, Thomas Orlina! We loved “Tell Me Your Name” and wanted to ask! What was your inspiration for this release, and how did it fit into the music video you made?
Thank you for having me! The inspiration for the release was to tap into an edgier sound and push the envelope. The lyrics are very sexual and free, so I wanted my listeners to feel liberated and have fun with the song. I’ve had this record for a while since it was presented to me a couple of years ago, but I just wasn’t ready to take my music in this direction. After much time to think about it and the time I took to grow as a person and artist, I’m grateful that it’s available now, and I couldn’t have asked for a better time to release it. For the music video, we tied in many sexual themes and playful interactions with one another. It's by far my most risqué video and marks my directorial debut.
What was your initial vision for the “Tell Me Your Name music video,” and was the final version close to what you had imagined initially?
The overall feel of the video is very sexy and daring. I knew I wanted to showcase confident male models who would feel comfortable in their skin with their shirts off, and I wanted to incorporate choreography because that is a big part of what I do as an artist. Every song I have released has some type of dance, and since this song is an EDM dance record, we showcase a lot of that throughout the video. There are parts in the video that are very in your face, especially some of the scenes of me in bed, but that was very intentional and a part of the fantasy world we built around this visual project. I believe it turned out better than my team and I imagined.
What was your favorite part of bringing your creative vision to life for the “Tell Me Your Name” music video?
My favorite part was sharing with my audience a new side of me. This fantasy visual project made me feel very free from caring about what people think about me and more about being myself, pushing the boundaries creatively with some of the shot selections, and taking that authoritative role as a director.
If your fans could take one thing away from “Tell Me Your Name” and the music video, what would you want it to be?
I hope that my audience realizes that we have a lot of power as people and that we get to design the life that we want to have. I hope that this video gives them the strength to free themselves from public opinion and ultimately do what makes them happy.
What’s next for Thomas Orlina, and is there anything you’d like to say to your fans?
There’s so much to look forward to this year. We have more live performances this Summer. I have different exciting opportunities to continue to amplify my music, and I am excited to work with some amazing non-profit organizations that are very important to me. I’d like to thank all my fans who stream my music and continue championing what I do. I wouldn’t be here without my supporters and I’m so thankful every day for the love and uplifting messages I receive from them.
