Pulling from his legendary influences, Ándu weaves through an introspective track about his inner demons and how he’s able to overcome them. Hey Ándu! Welcome to BuzzMusic! Can you start by telling our readers more about yourself and how you got started in making music?
Hey thanks for having me. I go by the name of Ándu im an artist from Washington DC. I grew up very into hiphop listening to artists like Nas, Eminem, Kanye West and later artists like Travis Scott, J Cole, Kid Cudi. I started rapping for fun in school with friends and people started telling me how good mine were. So i started releasing my songs online and strangers started liking them a lot too. When I won $500 for getting 1st place in a rap contest competing against 600 people on younow.com is when I realized I had something special here so I decided to pursue music. In 2017, I released my first video "Aint That True" which has received around 44,000 views as of today. The success from my first music video and a couole other singles with 20k views got me a following on youtube and instagram with 4,000 subscribers on youtube 2.6k followers on insta. Ive been following up with singles since then and they have received similar positive reviews and attention.
We love your track “Haunted”! It has a meaningful lyrical presence. What does this track mean to you?
Thanks so much! Haunted is a song about the facing and defeating your demons whether they be addiction, fears, bad habits or any obstacles that could be directly or indirectly affecting your life. It means a lot to me because I personally have gone through some things and it was outlets like music that helped get through tough times.
What do you hope your readers take away from “Haunted”?
I hope people take away a sense of relatability but most importantly a sense of them not being alone. We all go through things and this is me extending an open hand to anyone.
How do your musical influences help inspire your sound?
My musical influences help inspire my sound greatly. From artists like Eminem, Jay Z, J Cole, Kanye West, Kid Cudi, Travis Scott and others. I also get inspiration when it comes to songwriting and melody outside of hiphop from artists like Mr. Hudson, Tame Impala, The Weeknd, Khalid, Bipolar Sunshine just to name a few.
What’s next for you, Ándu?
