We Heard It First: Lady Frequency Releases New “Sweet Thang”

Lady Frequency is a phenomenal woman. Being a self-taught vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, composer, and producer, there isn’t anything she can’t do! Falling love with music by way of piano, Lady Frequency would sit at the piano for hours playing by ear. Her relationship with the piano binder her to singing and writing music which only made sense. She has several musical influences including Amy Winehouse and Michael Jackson. Lady Frequency creates an eclectic storm of sounds. Giving her her own lane and style. Looking into this song “Sweet Thang” I did not know what to expect so let’s check it out.

Immediately out the gate, her cover art is crazy. I see her love for the piano is evident. Not only in the cover art but in the song as well. There’s a very familiar yet different sound here. As soon as her vocals come in completely, I am blown away by her tone. Again very unexpected because it’s got a little wine, with some house and some jazz. Not to mention the alternative with middle eastern swings. I even hear some soul. Talk about eclectic! Then the pre-climax to climax; I hear so many various sounds trailing into one another working together. Lady Frequency is the perfect name. She has taken all these frequencies and made them work for her sound. And I love it!

Hey there! Would you mind telling our readers who you are?

My name is Lady Frequency and I am an eclectic soul musical artist from Ventura, California.

What is the hardest thing about the production of “Sweet Thang”?

The hardest thing would have been capturing all of those background vocals and harmonies. I really enjoy layered and heavy sounding vocals and those took a few days to lay down. I actually had to re-record all of them because I had recorded them wrong at first on accident. It turned out to be much better the second time and I wrote new parts to the song that elevated it.

Where do you see yourself in the next few years?

I see myself traveling and touring around the world and playing/making music with other like-minded musicians. It has always been a dream of mine to go to Melbourne, Australia. Hopefully I will have been there by then.

If you could describe your sound in so many words what would that be?

I struggle describing my sound because there are a few genres kind of mushed into one. It's really just naturally what happens and I think I've come to the conclusion of it being called eclectic soul. There are R&B, Jazz, Funk, and Neo-Soul elements in what I tend to create.
