Welcome to BuzzMusic, AmandaKind! We loved “Rebel Spirit”, and the inspiration behind this track was so cute and meaningful! Can you take us through the creative process you went through making this song?

I wrote this song to inspire young girls to stay true to themselves. I read an article that presented significant findings that most girls’ confidence and self-esteem plummet when they hit age 12. My nieces, Madeleine and Olivia, recently turned 12, and they’re two of the most fearless people I know. With this song, I wanted to encourage them and all girls their age to hold onto their confidence and to always tap into their inner “Rebel Spirit.” The song went through four different versions because my friend and fellow singer-songwriter Jessie T and I were trying to get it right. I believe in empowering women and anyone who feels boxed in or held back to stand up for themselves and fight for what they believe in. I’m a huge fan of the Fearless Girl statue in New York, which depicts a young girl defiantly facing the Wall Street Charging Bull statue. I have a canvas of it hanging in my studio; every day, it reminds me to be brave. (That’s why a line references it in the song.)

What was your favorite part about bringing your vision for the “Rebel Spirit” music video to life?

The most amazing part of the filming process was watching all the girls get excited about being in a music video. You can see and feel their joy in the video as they lip-sync to the song, which fills me with so much hope for the next generation of young girls and women. I could tell the message was sinking in for them because they had to learn the lyrics to be in the video. Watching them be empowered and make this message their own was so beautiful.

For fans trying to follow in your footsteps, what do you think the most important quality for a musician to have is?

Working on your craft and being true to yourself are the two most important things for any artist or musician. Small incremental growth and practice are more important than big bursts, so don’t get discouraged, and keep moving forward with music if it’s something you love. I believe in setting goals and working out the steps to achieve them, so I encourage young artists to practice, write songs, and get as much performance experience as possible.

What goals do you aim to achieve through your music, and do you have a favorite musical-related memory?

For me, music is a form of self-expression and emotional release. Both listening to and creating music do that for me. I process experiences through music, and I feel a sense of euphoria and calm when I sing. My goal for my music is to continue to tap into those feelings and to use music in a healing way for myself and others. I also hope that anyone listening to my music will feel the same emotions and experiences as I do and that they can find their source of healing or self-expression through my songs. My favorite musical memories are playing the grand piano in my house or listening to my mom play it. Those early experiences laid the foundation for my love of music today and my desire to share music with others.

What’s next for AmandaKind? Can we expect to hear more new music soon, and is there anything you want to say to your fans?

Stay tuned because there’s more new music coming soon. I have two more singles that I plan to release this year and an EP slated to come out in October. The outpouring of support for “Rebel Spirit” and the rest of my songs within my community and beyond has been incredible, and I’m truly grateful. You can keep up with me and my music on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and my website.
