“Overcast” explores the idea of finding beauty in everyday moments. Was there a specific person or experience that inspired the song?

When I wrote Overcast, I learned through my relationships with my friends and partner at the time to see the beauty in things that were simple and 'mundane.' The process of learning and seeing what made the world around us so beautiful is what truly inspired the song as it is now. 

The track feels particularly relevant during a time when many people are feeling overwhelmed by uncertainty. How important was that sense of comfort when writing it?

In our world today, there are so many awful things happening around the planet, and it can be easy to fall into a hopeless state of mind when seeing all of this uncertainty. The two things that we can hold dear to us are community and creativity when you have nothing else to stay hopeful for. This sense of comfort was exactly what I wanted Overcast to embody, especially when so many people yearn to find stability.

Auburn's music often feels rooted in community and connection. How has Nashville's creative scene influenced your approach to songwriting?

Being in the Nashville music scene has made all of us care even more about the music we make. The musicians and performers we love and are connected with inspire us to pour our hearts into our material and have fun with what we make. Whether that's in a live setting or when we record and create music.

The song encourages listeners to reframe difficult experiences. Has that mindset become an important part of your own lives outside of music?

It's something I've learned through therapy! It's a skill that I have been learning to improve on to encourage myself with coping. In a song that highlights seeing the beauty of the world, reframing how we view the world around us (although it's difficult sometimes) is the best that we can do to keep ourselves above water.

You mentioned having a lot of new music on the way. How does “Overcast” fit into the larger creative direction Auburn is exploring right now?

"Overcast" serves as a transition point from where we were as creatives when we wrote and released our last project to what we are currently making and wanting to release in the future. It's a song that reminds us of where we were and where we are now as people and as writers.
