“Focused” is the brand new track from artist Mr. MVP. You get that hook in your mind straight away, it stays with you, the mellow yet bouncy vibe of the music behind the vocals helps hold it there, and overall there is a cool and relaxed ambiance to the whole thing. It works really well as a single. “Focused” has a simple and effective message with an optimistic and generally positive vibe, always something we need more of in the world. The type of rap that Mr. MVP offers up is refreshing and authentic. He’s not simply mimicking other artists and is not particularly reminiscent of anyone else at all, his style is his, everything from the tone and the mellow yet deep performance style, you know who you’re listening to.
The flow of the rap performance is really easy to listen to, it adds to the summertime vibe created by the music and the chorus melody, and so the whole thing is very complete sounding, every element is united, working in the same direction, setting the same scene. Rather than shouting or screaming to get your attention, Mr. MVP speaks with a calm sort of confidence and certainty that is easy to listen to and take on-board. Individuality is hugely important in independent music, and with Mr. MVP’s music you get a good mixture of this with a comforting sense of familiarity. The good news is, there’s plenty more music where that came from Mr. MVP is a dedicated artist with a whole collection of music for you to delve into.

Welcome to BuzzMusic Mr. MVP! How long have you been making music, and what are your main aspirations right now as an artist?
I started writing poetry and raps when I was in 5th grade and I started writing songs in 6th grade. I always dabbled with different instruments as a kid and I started making beats when was 16, so pretty much most of my life. When my mother was pregnant with me, her water actually broke at a Salt N’ Peppa concert. I always joke that I’ve been trying to rock the mic since the day I was born.
Tell us more about your track “Focused”. What does it mean to you? How did the beat come about?
To me it's an affirmation for success. The song starts with "See it bigger make it clearer, focus." Being able to visualize where you wanna be,
not letting anything get in your way when you have goal, and backing it up with the work ethic.
I made this beat one night after a studio session. I was still feeling the vibe so once I got it the beat on a loop, I started flowing to it, so i kinda wrote the song and made the beat at the same time. I just kept going back and forth adding pieces to both the lyrics and the beat.
What about contemporary hip hop – what are your thoughts on the genre at present, and your hopes for the future?
I think it's in a great position, hip hop has come a long way and the only thing that stays constant is change. There's always good and bad music in every genre but I don't really focus on the bad stuff. To me, hip hop is an art and a sport, and rap is an acronym for rhythm and poetry. I just wanna see it continuously evolve and whoever is doing it to have that passion. I'm definitely interested to see where it is 10 years.
If you could collaborate with anyone at all, past or present, who would you choose, and why?
The Austinite and music lover in me wants to say Gary Clark Jr, but the lyrical and competitive side in me says Eminem. So I'd probably go with Eminem. In order to be one of the best, you have to compete with them.
What’s next for Mr. MVP?
I've just been recording songs and making beats so I have a project coming soon that I'm producing. I'm also a hip hop super group called Soopafrendz and we're wrapping up our debut LP, that'll be out soon also. So new music, more shows, more videos, more podcasts, and I'll probably start collaborating with other artist more as well.
