It most certainly is a "New Day Coming," as this brand new release from Swedish artist Bjorn Rydhog gives us a deeper look into his forthcoming E.P.
Touring us through the buoyant and profound essence of this track, we're entranced by the innovative core that has us swarmed in a myriad of solid melodies, airy retro synths, and deep 808s. Teaming up with producer extraordinaire Johan Sigerud (JRSS) and co-writer Olof Gråhamn, Bjorn Rydhog gives us a record that's inspired by the prominent Swedish pop scene.
"New Day Coming" fills us with triumphant notions as we bask in the celebratory and hopeful feel conveyed. We got the chance to speak with the song's performing artist Bjorn Rydog for the BuzzMusic exclusive interview.
Welcome to BuzzMusic, Bjorn Rydhog! It's such a pleasure to be chatting with you about the release of "New Day Coming." With this being a look into your forthcoming E.P., what can you tell us about your reasoning for picking this as the second lead single?
I think ‘New Day Coming’ is my best song so far. It’s catchy, celebratory sort of an anthem. Even though the lyrics were never about Covid its theme seems very fitting now that the pandemic is finally coming to an end. So the timing of the release seems perfect.
We would love to know more about the messaging in this record. What does this song mean to you, and what do you hope your audience can take away from it?
I’m an optimist and also fond of the deeper layers of existence. I think that is reflected in the song, the music video, and the whole EP. By the way, I should not forget to mention that the music video was kindly created by the awarded 376 films, also from Malmö.
What was it like bringing your vision to life with Johan Sigerud and Olof Gråhamn? How did this collaboration come to be?
Olof Gråhamn is a close friend and multi-gifted all-around artist. We meet regularly and write songs through jamming. We create at least one song or more each session. For example, ‘New Day Coming’ and my first single from the E.P. ‘Let’s Not Get Old’, were created during one of our sessions. Both these songs immediately lifted up my spirit and had high energy, so I made a demo of them and sent them to Johan Sigerud (JRSS), the producer. He brought them to the next artistic level and further into an electronic and beat-based realm. Which is an area I’ve been exploring lately. I met Johan three years ago, at a weekend music production course at a study association, where he teaches. We started to work with the song ‘Just to be with you’ and our collaboration has been very fruitful ever since. Johan has a great knowledge of sounds, textures, and rhythm.
Let fans know about your art and who you are in terms of what "New Day Coming" says about you as an artist?
Creating music is an essential part of my life. A way of healing old wounds as well as bringing me in contact with the deeper layers of myself. I guess it’s my way of being a child in a grown-up body.
Could you please take us into what we can expect on your forthcoming E.P.? What concepts, themes, and emotions are you looking to bring to life with this release?
I continue to explore love and belonging in a deep sense. It’s optimistic, perhaps bombastic. I’m finding myself embracing the epic. It wasn’t planned that way, it just happened. I might add that the last song on the E.P. ‘Your Love’, was a way of coping with my grandmother’s death. It’s a celebration of her and the love she had for us.
