Sending shockwaves through our speakers from Montreal is French Canadian artist and producer David Houle with his latest single and debut EDM track, "Even."

Houle is no stranger to the spotlight. With over 15 years in the entertainment industry, he's performed globally with acts like Cirque du Soleil and Marilyn Manson, and even landing a headlining act on the Las Vegas Strip—not to mention being an original Canadian cast member in "Kinky Boots," collaborating with Cindy Lauper.

In his new single, "Even," David Houle brings his rich artistic background into the world of EDM. The track, recorded at Montreal's Planet Studios, is an exhilarating and sultry ride through deep house beats and captivating melodies, showcasing his ability to step outside his comfort zone.

The song kicks off with an entrancing ghostly vocal that quickly draws you in. As the layers build and David's velvety vocals pour in, he sets the scene with passionate, emotional lyrics of lost love and wishing to feel their embrace one last time. Although his lyrics are incredibly deep and emotional, the song's production is top-notch club-worthy.

David also released an accompanying music video that pumps up the heat even more—drenched in alluring red lighting as he transitions from standing still in a shirt and tie to busting a move in a red jumpsuit. Welcome to Buzz, David! We're loving your debut into EDM with "Even." What inspired you to explore the genre in the first place?

Thank you so much for the warm welcome! I’m thrilled to hear you’re enjoying "Even." My journey into EDM has been a long time coming. During the pandemic, I turned to music as a way to stay sober and channel my complex emotions into a positive outlet. It's been a transformative experience for me, helping me to navigate through some deeply personal feelings. While many of my lyrics tend to be on the melancholic side, there's something incredibly powerful about juxtaposing those emotions with upbeat, energetic tempos.

It creates a unique dynamic, blending sorrow with euphoria, which I find incredibly fascinating and therapeutic. My background as a dancer, acrobat, and physical actor with Cirque Du Soleil has also significantly influenced my approach to EDM. The genre’s rhythmic and high-energy nature allows me to merge my strengths and creativity in a way that’s both refreshing and exhilarating. It's not just about making music but crafting an experience that resonates on multiple levels. I hope my music brings listeners the same sense of emotional release and joy that it brings to me.

How does "Even" represent your evolution as an artist? Is this a new direction for you or a one-time experiment?

"Even" is a reflection of my journey and growth as an artist, capturing a slice of my evolving creative landscape. As a creative nomad, I draw inspiration from my surroundings and my current state of mind. I thrive on taking my raw emotions and transforming them into abstract, immersive worlds through my music. The past few years have been an incredible ride for me. From headlining the iconic Las Vegas Strip to serenading audiences on luxury cruise liners, each experience has shaped and fueled my artistic evolution.

My career path has taken me to some unexpected yet thrilling places, aligning perfectly with the goals I’ve set for myself. "Even" isn't so much a departure as it is an expansion of my craft. While I have a deep love for emotional ballads, there's something invigorating about diving into upbeat tracks. It's like switching from painting in monochrome to a vibrant, full-spectrum palette.

So, while you’ll definitely hear more upbeat tracks from me, those poignant, heartfelt ballads will still have a place in my repertoire. Every project is a new adventure, and I can’t wait to share more of this journey with you all. Stay tuned—there’s plenty more excitement on the horizon!

What was the creative process like for "Eve?" Did you face any challenges exploring this new sound?

Creating "Even" was an exhilarating journey! The process flowed smoothly, thanks in large part to the incredible talent of Hugo Germain, an outstanding sound engineer at Studio Piccolo. Hugo and I have collaborated on my previous singles, and he always has this magical ability to take my ideas and elevate them to new heights. Recording the track was an epic experience—we laid it down in just three hours!

The whole session was electric, with creativity buzzing in the air. One of the challenges I faced was cutting down the lyrics. As a songwriter, I often find myself pouring out a sea of words, but I've learned that in EDM, less is often more. It’s all about capturing the essence of the emotion in the most impactful way. Hugo was instrumental in fine-tuning those details, helping to sculpt the song into its final form. I couldn't be more proud of "Even." It's a testament to our collaborative spirit and relentless pursuit of sonic excellence.

The videographer who collaborated with me on the music video is Zac Courchesne, an exceptional producer and artist currently based in Montreal, Canada. I hope listeners feel the same rush of energy and emotion that we experienced while creating it!

Did you work alongside any producers or musicians to create "Even?" Who helped or even inspired you to bring this track to life?

Creating "Even" was such a thrilling experience, and it wouldn't have been possible without some amazing collaborators. The incredibly talented Slowchestra crafted the initial beat for the track. His artistry is something else, and it laid the perfect foundation for the song. My go-to sound engineer, Hugo Germain, was also instrumental in bringing "Even" to life. Hugo and I have been working together for a while now, and his ability to fine-tune and elevate my ideas is phenomenal.

The inspiration behind "Even" came from a desire to feel happier and connect with music that brings joy. Sure, the song still has a dark edge, but I love its energy. Music has always been my therapy—it’s a way to transform and channel my emotions into something positive. Right now, I'm at a phase where I no longer chase after things—I just float, create, and let the music lead me. It’s all about enjoying the ride and embracing the fun of the process. This is my journey as an artist, and I’m excited to share it with you all!

How do you hope your fanbase reacts to the new shift in sound with "Even?" What's the general reaction so far?

I'm beyond excited for my fans to experience the new sound with "Even"! The shift is something I've been rocking out to myself—just imagine me jamming to it while cleaning my condo. There's nothing like grooving to your own beats, right? Haha! As someone deeply passionate about both music and motivational speaking, I genuinely hope "Even" inspires others to dive into their own creative projects. Let's be real—half the time, none of us know exactly what we're doing, especially as indie artists starting out.

But that's the beauty of it! We keep creating, learning, and pushing forward, and that's what makes the journey so rewarding. Doing everything on my own has been a huge eye-opener, and it's given me an immense appreciation for every step of the creative process. Music is my greatest passion, and I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to share it with you all. So far, the reaction has been fantastic.

The music video, in particular, has this mysterious vibe that really complements the track, and I can't wait for everyone to see it! Thank you, Buzz Music LA, for having me. Until next time, keep the music flowing and the vibes high!
