Catch The Soulful New Hit From Grace Morgan "Restless"

Grace Morgan is a 22 year old singer and songwriter who is from California and is currently living in London. Grace Morgan has a sound that encompasses the lush melodies of pop and the soulful vibes of R&B. Grace Morgan takes some of her musical cues from the likes of Dua Lipa and Ariana Grande. “Restless” is the title-track from Morgan’s recently released EP, which is available on all streaming services. Beginning with the humble guitar followed by a sparse beat and the entry of vocals. Soon the beat picks up ever so slightly, the verse begins in earnest. For a song called “Restless”, the vibe created by the arrangement and simple instrumentation is actually quite contemplative and calming. The message itself seems to be that of pain, heartache and a fair amount of suffering, but this doesn’t diminish the power of the music in the slightest. Grace Morgan’s vocals are simple and pure, proving that even that in this age of production, there is no substitute for a good voice. “Restless” is a track that you’ll enjoy from a promising young artist!

Hey Grace, thanks for catching up with us! First of all, would you mind describing your background and how you first got into music?

Music and theatre have always been a big part of my life. My grandparents are musicians and my dad is a professional singer and used to dance with Joffrey ballet, and my mom used to be our costume designer! When I was little, I used to go up on stage and bow with my dad after a concert, and I also got to watch him perform in various operas in New York City. I definitely got my voice from him and whenever I go home I still get voice lessons from him!

I attended Idyllwild Arts Academy in California and studied musical theatre, but after high school I found a love for songwriting and I’ve been writing ever since! Now I have moved to the UK and am working hard to balance my day job with my personal life and still have time to make music, but it’s definitely a fun challenge. Last year my song “Tainted” got played on BBC Introducing which was amazing, and I’m hoping to release more music later this year.

Who would you describe as your biggest inspirations musically?

One of my biggest music inspirations (other than my dad) is Sara Bareilles. I’ve loved her music for over a decade both on the radio, and on broadway! I’m also a big Gaga fan and can’t stop listening to the A Star Is Born album. I’m one of those annoying people that say “I love all genres,” but I actually mean it. My playlists have a mixture of pop, rap, jazz, opera, musical theatre, R&B, country, dubstep, acapella and everything in-between!

What does your writing process generally look like? How do the songs all come together?

I’d love to say that I have writing process, but I genuinely don’t have one. Sometimes I start with a melody, sometimes I play around with piano chords or a track that I like, and sometimes I write down a phrase or describe an emotion I’m experiencing and just go from there. I try not to overthink it because it ruins the fun!

What’s next on the horizon for Grace Morgan?

Right now, I’m just writing. Constantly looking for inspiration and writing. I’m hoping to have another album out by the end of this year so I’ve got a lot of work to do! New music is definitely coming your way so watch this space!
