Hi SALLYWHITE! Welcome to BuzzMusic! Can you start by telling us more about yourself and your upbringing into music?
I had an attraction to music at an early age. I always wanted to express myself through art. I switched my creative approach from drawing and painting to rhyming around middle school. I'm Sallywhite from Thomson, GA, a small town about 30 minutes outside of Augusta. Sallywhite is my mother's last name and yes, it's one word. My mama used to make up these lullabies and sing my younger brother to sleep. In some way I think that made me want to create my own songs... I could be reaching lol, but that's just a musical memory I have as a child that could have swayed my musical interest. However, my intentions are to wake people instead of putting them to sleep, lol. Also, I have an Uncle that sings in church, and seeing the congregation's soul touched by his singing always amazed me. Unfortunately, I wasn't blessed with the voice of an angel, so I embraced rapping.
Who are you musical influences? Why?
I have a long list of artist that I looked up to, but my main musical influences are Field Mob and OutKast... They related to me in a way that showed me being different was not abnormal, but an advantage to compete with adversity. Authentic originality doesn't fade.
What inspires your writing?
My writing is inspired by the struggle to survive and the pursuit of happiness. I love metaphors and wordplay. Being able to take those things, attach them to a storyline, and create a piece of art can be powerful if it's done right. There isn't necessarily a wrong or right in art. I create the things that I feel, and if it touches someone else, that's a plus.
What was the overall theme of your album “Baby Snappeazus? What do you hope your listeners take away from it?
Baby Snappeazus is just that, a baby. The theme of the album is the potential to be great. When u see a baby, all you see is that moment, not knowing what the future holds for them. The album depicts the journey of a baby destined for greatness, but more so the obstacles along the way, and the battle between humbleness and confidence. The meaning of the name Snappeazus comes from the level of rapping or "snapping" ability. If something is really dope, we might say such and such snapped. So with Snapp being a nickname of mine, I became the Jesus of snapping, hence Snappeazus. From this album, I want people to take away the urge to create their own destiny. I want them to see the mistakes I've made and understand that nobody is perfect, and we can all be successful with passion and faith.
What’s next for SALLYWHITE?
I've been trying to secure a deal with Puma for yearsssss, so I'm going to continue to speak that into existence. This album had the smash single "Salsa" on it (also another nickname of mine), so I might need to look into getting my own brand of actual salsa dip. My other love after music and Pumas is avocados. My dad passed last year and left my sister, brother, and l some land, so I'm going to convince them to let me plant some avocado trees lol... I'm for real though. Also I'm looking to stick a spoon in the vegan ice cream business. As u can see my mind is all over the place so once I get a hold of it, I plan on releasing a new album early fall. The album will be called..... Well stay tuned to find out. Follow me on Instagram @sallywhiteisoneword, and the Facebook SALLYWHITE page. For now babysit Baby Snappeazus for me and if he starts to cry, put a little Shclitz Malt Liqour in his bottle lol.
