David Stranger and Megan Love come together to create the soulful pop stylings of Hummingbird Hotel. The dynamic duo is no stranger to success, both being award-winning singer/songwriter and producers. Their self titled, debut album, released in January, landed the duo of Hummingbird Hotel a deal with Think Music out of Los Angeles. Welcome to BuzzMusic Hummingbird Hotel! We're completely captivated by your sound and the chemistry throughout your tracks. What can you tell us about your self-titled album?
Our self titled album was definitely a labor of love for us. A few of the songs were ideas that we had before coming together that turned into songs, and others we started from scratch. We are always writing. When we are driving, on vacation, going to the grocery store. When we're not writing, we are recording and producing the songs. We love every part of the creative process, and feel so lucky to be able to do it together.
“Perfect” is the ideal track to open up your recent album. Where did you draw inspiration for this particular song?
David actually started writing the opening guitar riff for Perfect a few years prior. We took a month long trip to Nashville, and a few other places on the east coast, and Southwest Air lost all of my luggage at the beginning of the trip. Basically my whole wardrobe, a few things that were irreplaceable, AND my fluffy socks! That's kind of how we started writing the lyrics, and everything else just stemmed from that experience.
Congratulations on signing your deal with THINK Music! How does it feel to have your music career propelling into so much success in such a short period of time?
Thank you! It feels really great to be making music that people like and want to hear more of! THINK music has been wonderful and it has been so surreal to hear our songs on TV shows and commercials. The first time we heard our song 'On My Way' on Magnum PI, we were watching it at David's parent's house. It seemed to happen so fast, like it was a dream.
How do you both personally feel about live performance? Would you say that you prefer the live performance aspect of music more over the writing/recording process?
We both LOVE performing live, and we actually wrote, and performed individually long before we came together.
'Megan'- Live performance for me is a way to take the energy in a room and shift it in some way. To be able to make people feel and create a positive feedback loop of emotion. I like to make people feel good. It can be very healing for everyone involved. I would have to say that I also LOVE the production process too though. Every little choice via instruments, melodies, harmonies, and tempo makes the song magical. There are so many different ways you can go with a song and I love creating the big picture.
'David'- Live performance is and always has been a spiritual/healing experience for me. Every time I walk out on the stage, I feel a swell of energy rush over my body; then I let go. On stage seems to be the easiest place for me to disconnect with my "identity" and open up to something more universal. I feel similarly about creating music, but its definitely more magical to record while the ideas are fresh and living inside the heart. I also enjoy the mixing process, but that seems to be more of a brain centered activity and is a wonderful opportunity to nerd out.

We couldn't be more excited for our upcoming release with MAISØN! He reached out to us earlier this year wanting to create something together that would blend reggae, and house music. The song has a really positive, and empowering feel to it. We don't have an exact release date yet for it, but it will happen before the end of the year! We're also stoked to be releasing a new song on October 4th called Only Love. This is a song that we started to write with the concept of lifting people up, and bringing them together.
