Chrys Thompson Releases New Banger “Isso Lit”

Chrys Thompson is a truly talented and ambitious individual. Hailing from Los Angeles, Chrys kicked off his 2019 by releasing his debut single “We On” and then followed it up with “Aerials”. This garnered Chrys a solid and dedicated fanbase. He also delivered a brand new music video for “Aerials” just this past September. Now, back with more new music, Chrys released a party anthem “ISSO Lit” on Halloween. “ISSO Lit” is a fun track, loaded with good vibes, quirky rhymes, and a consistently rhythmic flow that works well on top of the natural bounce of the beat.

It’s truly admirable for an artist to be able to release contemporary, relevant music consistently all year long. Chrys wins your affection with a few well-placed bars that beg for you to replay the moment and double-check what you just heard. Short lines feel familiar and accessible, but with this, Chrys makes sure to spit about rhymes and ideas that come naturally. It's all thanks to the energy and pace of this music. His flow varies just enough so throughout the performance to let you know there’s skill and purpose behind it all, and that works well as he furthers the familiarity of his sound and his name. Not only is Chrys Thompson a talented rapper and lyricist, but he is the rising artist we’re watching going into 2020. His ambition, versatility, and overall dedication to his craft are exceptional and he is on his way to becoming a household name!

Welcome back to BuzzMusic Chrys Thompson! It’s such a pleasure to be catching up with you! You’ve had an impressive year, to say the least. What accomplishment are you most proud of thus far?

After 15 years of making music and not really putting it out there. I’m proud of the leap of faith I took by taking some small steps to release music on today’s biggest platforms. I’ve had friends tell me for years that I am talented and I always wondered if I would ever try to release music and showcase my artistry. I know there is still a lot to learn and skills to develop but creating the initial momentum and putting myself out there this year was a moment of pride for me. Also, planning and executing my first music video was a wild ride that felt like a dream, especially due to growing up in Palm Springs and being able to use LA as my movie set for a day, that experience was unreal.

“We On” is great track for your debut this year! What can you tell us about the creation and production process for this one?

“We On” was a track that came together with the collaboration of producer/engineer, Lewey Melchor who helped take my sound to a brand new place and a talented singer/songwriter/vocal coach, Prince Chapelle, who laid the foundation of melodies for the chorus and verses. This process was a bit foreign to me but I trusted them and endured some tough writing sessions as I looked for the perfect words to tell the story of having faith in your passions and enjoying the feeling of being “on” when it all works out. It was a perfect metaphor for my first single as CHRYS THOMPSON.

We absolutely love your latest release! What predominant message was integrated within “ISSO LIT”?

The message with ISSO LIT is pretty simple. Bring it all, if you are going to party or get amped to do something, give it all your energy and don’t hold back. It is meant to describe the atmosphere of a scene that no other words can do justice but, ISSO LIT. The verses tell the story of being with friends and going hard all night long! Coming up with some of those lines was fun and brought back memories as I recalled nights out with my boys at festivals, clubs, and parties. This song is ideal for a workout playlist, party/turn-up playlist or something to play when you are in the car with your squad on a road trip or on the way to get Lit!

You seem to be an artist that puts more thought into their lyrics than most. What can you tell us about the lyrical depth within “Aerials”?

Aerials is a special song because it took me out of my comfort zone and I wanted to tell the story of the highs and lows of life. Being grateful for the high points in life gives you an ability to navigate and withstand the lows. Nothing good in life comes easy and nothing worth having stays without being earned. So I tried to explain my way of gaining a higher viewpoint or perspective by getting the Aerial view of yourself and your situations.

How do you set yourself apart from other hip-hop artists today? What's the next move for you artistically?

It is really hard to develop a brand and sound in this current time period where more songs are being created than ever. I know I have different sounds and styles that I want to explore and bring to fruition, so I have had to practice patience as they all can’t come at the same time. There are many influences that excite me and I love so many songs that are being released. I would say my authentic voice is something that stands out from most artists, I desire to be heard in as raw of a form as I can while still having a professional production that comes with the finished product of my songs. I am actually still figuring out my next moves and that is the strategy behind the art that is necessary for the music industry. I would say more content. I have to keep making music to give people options to pick from so I can broaden my fan base. I also am really excited to continue trying out different styles and combinations of hip hop, R&B, Trap, and EDM.

Thank you so much for talking with us about your new projects and the creative process. Can you describe how your performances feel? Do you enjoy live shows, or do you prefer the actual songwriting process? Also, any live shows coming up in the near future?!

I’ll be the first to admit that I have only performed a handful of times in my life. I haven’t performed these three singles yet but I’m actually working on putting together my first set and hope to set a goal of performing in 2020!
