Accompanying the dazzling timbres that Devon emits, the lush funk-fueled echoes in the musical background of “Glitter,” acts as a vibrant foundation for her to sprawl her charismatic essence all over. When playing this song back, “I won’t stop ‘till I’m covered in glitter,” is the standout line that has us hypnotically chanting along to the lyrical fortitude showcased in Devon’s songwriting techniques as an artist.

Congratulations on the release of “Glitter.” This song has your talents on full display. We love it! As the creator behind this vivid masterpiece, what does this song mean to you?

Hi! Thanks so much for taking the time to chat, and thank you for such kind words about “Glitter”! The song is about love and how, just like glitter, it can simultaneously ruin everything while also making life so much better.

How long did it take you to write “Glitter?" Could you please share a glimpse of the creative process with us?

I usually write on acoustic guitar and/or piano so that I can hone in on lyrics, and this song was no different. Once I had the melody, I made that cute little synth beat that you hear in the verses and worked outwards to build a fun, danceable track to convey all the energy and joy of the song! It technically came together in an afternoon, but I ended up tweaking it for months before it felt just right.

As someone who is multifaceted in her art, is there a part of the creative process that you enjoy more than others? Why?

Lyrics are my favorite part of the creative process. For this song, in particular, I wanted to focus on metaphors and imagery to create a happy little world for us all to smile and dance around in.

How have you found yourself growing as an artist from your first release to the moment “Glitter” came out?

I’ve always been a singer-songwriter, and a few lyricists who consistently inspire me are Adam Duritz (Counting Crows), Sara Bareilles, Sam Melo (Rainbow Kitten Surprise), and Joni Mitchell. But I self-produce everything, and from a production perspective, I feel like my sound has evolved from project to project. Lately, I’ve been listening to a lot of The 1975 and HAIM, so I’ve been experimenting with more synth sounds on these new songs.

What's next for you?

More poppy bops! My next single “Walk Away” comes out on April 23rd (pre-save it here), and it’s all leading to my new uplifting and bubbly EP Helium, coming this summer. Stoked to share it with you all, and thank you for listening!
