Cozii's Making Waves With New Song “That One”

Writer: BUZZ LABUZZ LA

Cozii is an up and coming rapper and lyricist from Montreal, Canada. After retiring from being an NCAA swimmer, Cozii struggled to find a purpose in life before realizing he had known all along. Naturally gifted and independently ambitious, Cozii pursued his passion for music. His debut single “That One” is out now, soon to be followed by a debut EP. Don't sleep on Cozii, stay tuned for more!

“That One” is a dope new track from Cozii. While the lyrics feel notably rooted in the drive and confidence of modern rap, the music and Cozii’s own vocals add a unique authenticity. “That One” is hip hop with a certain identity and difference to it. It’s an easy anthem for contemporary hip hop fans. Cozii drives with a simple lust for life with catchy hooks, laid-back concepts, professionalism, and style. This release is far from the exception and offers yet another track that further cement Cozii’s sound and approach as an artist. “That One” is a song that connects a little more strongly with every few moments that pass by, and with each repeated listen. While that initial quirk of the concept and the hook, is the first to grab you, the song goes on to lead with a notably energizing beat, a heavy vibe, great rhythm, and something more of an alternative, late-night aura than anything purely designed for the pop world.

I highly recommend you check out “That One” here and keep reading for more with Cozii below!

Hey Cozii! Welcome to BuzzMusic. How long have you been creating your own music, and what first inspired you to start?

I have always been creating things in my life and music finally found its place in my life around seven months ago when I decided to get myself the equipment and knowledge for music creation. I knew I always had this sound inside of me. It was just a matter of time and practice for me to get it out!

Can you tell us more about “That One”? What were you hoping to achieve with this track?

Around two years ago I met this amazing girl and we have been together ever since. She is smart, beautiful and very head strong and those are only a few reasons why I admire her. She has helped me through a lot in our time together and she’s stuck with me through a lot of personal shortcomings. While putting together some tracks, I came across this great beat online that caused some good inspiration flowing and immediately got the exclusive rights for it in order to create a song that night. I came up with the lyrics while thinking about her and the melody just came about naturally in my head. What I am hoping to achieve with this is simply get an honest, pure sound established for Cozii on all platforms as well as setting a baseline for what I’m about.

How do you generally get started when crafting a new track, and how do you know it’s truly finished?

When creating a new track, I like to spend my time browsing beats for inspiration while writing different lines. I try to wright as often as I can in order to reach new levels of alliteration and stronger vocabulary. As far as putting the song together officially, I go with the vibes, when a beat feels right, the words come to me very easily. Honestly I’ll never know when a track is quite finished, I believe there are always things to be added or removed to change the way a song makes you feel. I could recreate a song I’ve already made and it could make you feel two very different things by changing small elements within it. For me, a song is finished when I no longer have any new words or stories to add or remove.

Who do you admire in the music world right now?

Xxxtentacion was my most admired artist alongside Mac Miller before their tragic deaths last summer. I am still a huge fan of both JID and Ski Mask The Slump God. These are two very different artists but you can learn so much from both their outlooks and approaches to making music and having fun with it.

Who would you love to collaborate with?

Hands down I would love to work with Ski Mask The Slump God one day, I feel our humorous personalities would mix very well and we could make some quality work in the studio!
