D. Bird Unleashes Raw Emotion In New EP, "The Heartbreak Kid"

Hip-hop artist D. Bird is quickly on the rise, recently making waves with a powerhouse 6-track EP titled The Heartbreak Kid.

David Birdsall, better known as D. Bird, is an emerging hip-hop artist and co-founder of the White Collar Rhymes collective. Originally from Ferndale, Washington, D. Bird’s journey into music started early, with influences from hip-hop greats like Eminem and Atmosphere shaping his lyrical prowess.

His debut EP, The Heartbreak Kid, is a prime example of that. In the intro track, "Everything I Had," it's clear that D. Bird isn't holding anything back. It's a breakup tune, but a powerful one thanks to his raw honesty and ultra-personal bars that make for a deeply immersive listening experience. The old-school drums paired with the modern synths keep the vibes high while D. Bird confesses giving this person everything—even questioning whether that was enough.

In "Beautiful," D. Bird shifts gears, delivering a more introspective vibe that dives into the complexities of young, foolish love. The track’s smooth, laid-back beats offer the perfect backdrop for his diary-esque bars. It's an incredibly emotional listening experience, creating a powerful atmosphere with sweet, catchy melodies that linger long after the song ends.

Track three, "Wants VS Needs," brings a sharper edge as D. Bird wrestles with the internal conflict between desires and necessities.

The track is powered by a pulsating beat with crisp drums that leave us nodding our heads. His flow is relentless, and the overall concept of stripping questions down the core basics is wildly refreshing. It’s a high-energy track that's sure to smoke your speakers.

The next song, "Forbidden Fruit," takes listeners on a transcendent, slightly-psychedelic journey through temptation and consequence. The beat has a sweet, jazzy quality that hits us right in the feels. But this is where D. Bird’s storytelling shines—diving into his relatable experiences of hoping "the bite won't come after the bark."

In "Toxic," D. Bird throws lyrical punches with the harsh realities of a relationship gone wrong. The beat is gritty and raw, with deep piano chords and a dark melody that leaves us in a sweat—perfectly matching the intensity of D. Bird’s bars. It's a powerful reminder of the emotional toll that toxic relationships can take, and D. Bird doesn’t shy away from exposing the scars.

That brings us to the sixth and outro track, "Long Way Down," featuring Kyl Jameson. This slow, grooving, high-vibe song closes the EP on a high note with heaps of introspection and stunning instrumentals. Kyl's soothing R&B vocals soothe the soul, while D. Bird's bars continue to peel back layers of his relatable reality. It's a killer outro track that's sure to make its way to the top of your playlist.
